Landry up. Swings and misses. 0-1 High and inside. 1-1 Fast ball strike. 1-2 Strikeout (but I heard a foul tip). Game over. Illinois wins 3-1.
Well, we had what--a 25-game regular-season winning streak? Sucks to see it come to an end (but I'd rather take that 47-34 victory in football we had against the Illini in the 1/1/02 Sugar Bowl). I also heard that LeMahieu's 25-game-hitting streak came to an end
Got out there tonight. There was a really nice crowd there. Everyone got into it in the 9th inning. It's disappointing the guys couldn't pull this one out. I really thought they would when Pontiff somehow managed to get on base on his final at bat. I'm not very knowledgeable about scoring baseball, but there were no earned runs by Illinois tonight, right? Ochinko's error in the ninth would have ended up ending the inning before the guy who homered got to bat. Is that how it works? Illinois did a very good job fielding tonight (until their error in the 9th). A few hit and runs failed for LSU (SO and caught stealing). Ranaudo is awesome. 24 batters face, 12 strikeouts, 1 walk, 4 hits.
All of 'Nois runs were unearned. Tough game but those come along sometimes. If you remember we have those even in championship seasons.
Big thing to take away from this game is what appears to be our ace, Renaudo. He is lights out and appears to be one of our biggest keys to trying to win it all this season.
