He was verbally committed to our staff after his visit here and we held that until late last night. I know some have to see it on Rivals, Scout, etc...to be official.
That tells me Lewis was never really committed to begin with...even by word of mouth. That is the chance you take...Decommitted from Alabama....decommitted from Ole Miss on an LSU official visit...supposedly tells LSU coaches he is coming the LSU literally hours before signing. Not exactly a guy you want "holding on to the rope" as Bum Phillips used to say.
That is the nature of the game. A staff considers it a commitment and then pushes as hard as possible to enforce that commitment.
Anyway, Martin helps a little on the rankings as will Dillon (using 24/7). Now, my guess is LSU probably finishes maybe 5th instead of 4th. Alabama first, then USC or Florida State in some order, and now someone below LSU will pass the Tigers up due to losing like 8 points via the Lewis decision. BTW, if you want to know disappointment, keep an eye on Ole Miss. In the last week they lost 2 of their top 3 verbals (Lewis and Richmond). Rumors they might lose Van Jefferson which would make it 3 out of 4. Wow! I was a bit concerned about Texas maybe passing LSU but they seem dead in the water. Lost Mack to either TCU or A&M, and I get the sneaky suspicion they might lose Boyd the CB. They just got another verbal from a CB from Florida and the CBs have Boyd going to A&M. My guess is Boyd won't be wearing burnt orange after all.
I'm going to keep track on him in college. I have a theory....character is character...whether being recruited...whether in college, etc. Maybe the kid just can't say no to anyone but I said several days ago, it bothered me big time that the kid decommitted from Ole Miss ON the LSU official. I find it hard to believe he didn't know it 1 day earlier because he had just arrived at LSU. Decommit BEFORE the visit, not during it. Anyway, we'll see if he keeps his nose clean at MSU.
