Helm I believe mentioned rumors of Voorhies (Devin not Jason :p) possibly moving from S to OLB. I also brought up M Patterson, S Teuhema, etc from the DE position but I don't know if they could make the transition plus DE isn't incredibly deep to begin with. Obviously, a LOT of what is putting LSU in a bind is that our boy Chavis and Haley signed like 7 DL in 2013 class. Most of them are on milk cartons...Herron, Gilmore, Bain, Neal, Patterson. Really only Lacouture and Bower have panned off. Add that to all of Chavis' misses on LBers the last several years and that is another reason LSU is in trouble there. Where is Luke Muncie...where is Trevon Randle....where is Trey Granier....where is Lorenzo Phillips...Melvin Jones went to FB but may be academically ineligible, where is Ronnie Feist, K Alexander left early for the NFL draft, etc.

Phillips became a JuCo All American and signed this week with Florida St. He may not qualify, though.

Right, those were sort of rhetorical questions by me -- in LP's case I saw that he signed with FSU. I did not know that STILL he is having academic issues. It becomes obvious that some kids either through lack of interest or simply they don't have the academic skills/intelligence/fundamentals, that keeping them in college is a tough task...aka Lorenzo Phillips...aka Rashard Robinson...aka Jeremy Cutrer, aka Melvin Jones etc. Not just LSU guys but literally several hundred around colleges that normally could be starters/quality backups but they simply can't stay eligible.

The list is so long, ever hear Marshawn Lynch speak? The crab stealing rapist? If those cats even know what a citation (other than the ones "dem laws" be handing out are) I will be truly shocked. Hell, who was the guy, big NFL lineman, really good, "graduated " from OU and couldn't write his name.

I'd take Jason as a Mike. Didn't realize so many of those DE's had left.

:D on the Jason followup. The DL are still on the team to my knowledge but of course have contributed basically squat in 2 years (hence the milk carton reference which means MIA).. You might have meant to say LBers...yeah of all those LBers I listed, only Feist is still on the team (done very, very little) and most left only after 1 or 2 years. I believe M Jones is gone now, at least for a while, because I think he was ruled academically ineligible for the bowl game. Chavis has been an F as far as recruiting goes and don't think he has done much as a position coach or a DC either.

Nope, knew we were thin at LB. Thought you really meant all those DEs were gone.

As to Chavis, everyone knew he was not here for recruiting prowess. That said, his Ds were ranked in the top almost every year. Saying otherwise, sounds like jilted lover syndrom.

First, I can do the ratings deal also. 1) LSU was 11th in sacks and 12th in takeaways in the SEC. As bad as everyone says our offense was, I believe it would be quite the stretch to say the defense didn't have more than their share of chances to both get after the QB and take the ball away. That is called poor defense. 2) LSU indeed was #1 in defense in the SEC IF you include the cupcake games like ULM and SMSU where those teams barely got a first down. Take away every team's cupcakes games of teams in the SEC, suddenly LSU is 4th in the SEC in defense. 3) The LSU defense gave away the Alabama and Notre Dame games in the last minute. Chavis' defense also almost gave away the Ole Miss, A&M, and Florida games in the last minute. If you don't want to acknowledge his deficiencies as DC, fine. There was a reason that TN fans a decade ago dubbed him "3rd and Chavis". Fine DC on 1st and 2nd but gives up far, far too many 3rd and longs due to his passive defense. You saw that in all the games I mentioned above.

There is a difference in Chavis consistently keeping us in the game and the O consistently taking us out of it.
