Of course, he was just trying to push buttons with that post. LSU got 9 out of 15, not 7 out of 15 of the top LA players. So the info was bogus. But accidentally , he brought up a decent point....actually 2. 1) What the ratings never ever take into account is "filling needs". Most years that would make LSU's class rank higher, but IMO this year I would take points away. LSU only got 2 DEs where probably 3 were needed, no highly ranked QB, but mainly of course as 100% of us point out..failed miserably at getting at least 1 LBer. 2) and this goes a bit to 1) also. The last thing you want to do is to sign 15 out of the top 15 LA players if 6 of them are WRs or 5 of them are CBs. You want to sign a "balanced class". Obviously, this class was a bit too heavy on offense but that is what happens when only 4 OL were signed total the last 2 years.
I doubt Lanard Fournette will carry the ball out of the backfield much...used in other ways. And I hope that Williams is used as FB some...along with Ducre. I believe Melvin Jones has academic issues which is why he didn't make the bowl game. I don't ever see Spears or Chark seeing the field as WRer. Upchurch will either be moved to TE or H-back I think. But yeah, as bad as the depth chart looks at LBer and QB, it looks darn awesome at RB, FB, and WRer
The QB's at U-High and Catholic High are both kids of Les, and he said that he's working the Mom of those two kids real hard.
Next year as with this one, we will be a little heavy on the other side of the ball. The D will get their turn. It's gonna be real hard to slow down Grimes on the recruiting trail. Same with Corey Raymond. Word is Frank and Steele do a job on the numbers. The state is loaded with talent next year, at a number of positions of need. We won't sign them all, but will get what's needed and look OOS for the rest.
Speaking of, the Advocate reported this morning that Manny Miles is considering walking on now as a 2-sport athlete.
Roquan Smith (OLB), the top 100 player out of Georgia who was supposed to sign with UCLA has not done so. Georgia is involved. Man, I wish LSU could get involved with him. He has an LSU offer...like just about everybody's offer BTW.
