ESPN has spun the whole BCS series into the, "Most Deserving," and not which teams are currently playing the best.

    Bottom line:
Illinois will bring plenty of money into LA since they haven't been to the Rose Bowl since 1983. Most of the Illini players were not yet born in 1983.

And USC wants to ride on that spin into a very favorable pre-season ranking.

USC could beat Illinois by 40 and it won't do diddly to help us into a very favorable pre-season ranking. This matchup is lose/lose for USC. The ONLY game that would have helped us there is Georgia, period.

I understand that many feel Richt was whining. I thought he did a great job and made some solid points. I've been to some other forums around the country and I'm seeing similar comments. What I can't believe is that CLM is still saying that LSU was undefeated in regulation. Unreal. Does he not realize that LSU also did not WIN in regulation in those games? Does he not realize that it was ONE game in OT that cost USC the opportunity to play in the 2003 NC game?

IMO, the best Bowl Games this season may well be non-BCS.

Not at all. Just being honest. I have no problem saying that the BCS Bowl selections were not good. Missouri got screwed, Hawaii and Georgia is far from the best option, and VaTech is WAY overrated IMO. Why not take issues with specific points I made?

Watch football much? The Stanford loss is easily explained and PC did so again tonight. JDB had a broken finger and insisted on playing, just like Glenn Dorsey did when he was hurt. PC has said he should have taken JDB out and put Sanchez in but didn't. JDB threw 4 INT's in the 2nd half...........he'd NEVER done that before.

Funny how Furd beat kal and kal beat TN and........nevamind. :hihi:

    Okay... you said:

As weak of an argument it may be, consider this... LSU's two losses came to quality teams. Kentucky was ranked #12, I believe, with a Heisman QB candidate and then LSU lost to Arkansas, a quality team, with a Heisman RB candidate. We barely lost to two good teams... it took those teams extra time to beat us.

USC lost to a Heisman candidate QB in Oregon (not in overtime), but also lost to pretty much a Division-II look-a-like school in Stanford (not in overtime). USC should NEVER lose to Stanford, not now anyway.

Besides, because you guys don't play a conference championship game, it's hard for a two loss team to climb back into contention... especially after being embarrassed by Stanford. You guys should have fallen much further in ranking after that loss, but anyway...

Apologies to all. I had no business posting here as you all are enjoying your invitation to play in the NC game.

Congrats to the LSU Tigers and I hope you enjoy the run at another title.

I'm a little surprised, with everyone complaining here about the USC-Illinois matchup that no one, including the BCS Guru, has explained how this happened.

As a theoretical matter, USC v UGa in the Rose Bowl is the ideal and better mathup.

But the BCS rules create a few wrinkles. LSU (as SEC Conference Champion) was designated for the Sugar Bowl UNLESS they were in the BCS Championship. Ohio State was similarly designated for Rose Bowl.

Now Ohio State is Number 1 BCS Championship Game contender and LSU is Number 2 BCS CG contender. So Rose gets first "replacement pick" and Sugar gets second "replacement pick."

Rose can pick anyone they want EXCEPT a second SEC BCS team, unless the Sugar Bowl relinquishes its rights to an SEC team. There is NO WAY Sugar relinquishes its right to Georgia because OU (Fiesta Big 12 tie-in ) and VaTech (Orange ACC tie-in) cannot be chosen and Sugar knows it will get Hawai'i with last pick. If it relinquishes Georgia it could choose West Virginia or Illinois or Kansas or Missouri or Az State or Florida, etc.

Look over that list. Any of those teams v. Hawai'i either sells ZERO tickets or snubs Georgia (relegating them to non-BCS bowl as no conference may have 3 BCS bowl teams) if you scrape down and pick Florida to get Tebow's star appeal. So Sugar had no choice but to nab its rights to Georgia.

Remeber last year Tigerfans? The Rose wanted USC v. LSU when Ohio State was going to be taken. But when Florida was the Number 2 BCS CG team, Rose had to let Sugar get the Tigers. And Sugar had to let Rose get Michigan, since Sugar would not have wanted a Mich v. ND rematch.

IMO, Missouri is the team that got hosed. Two loses, to the #3 team, and Cotton Bowl. Seems like they should have had a BCS Bowl. Am I wrong?
