Center is the most unlikely place for a freshman to come in and play as they usually have the responsibility to call out the blocking assignments. That means that they need to be able to recognize what the defense is going to do. Ideally, we should be recruiting someone each year capable of being a center and grooming him at least 2 years before expecting him to come in and start.
Kelly said in his press conference today that Dellinger broke his left hand, so he can still snap and is still the backup center. Fitzgerald West is the next guy after him and has been repping there, but was unavailable this past week because he was in concussion protocol.
But he was playing on the OL correct? Wasn't he part of the rotation we started the 2 games prior to the hand injury? It would be nice to get back to that line because it was the best one that we had put on the field. Not great, but better than the other 3
Yeah, he started game 1 at center, then started the next 3 at LG. Unless something has changed, he will be back starting at LG this week.

The LSU Tigers defeated the Southern University Jaguars 65-17. STAFF PHOTO BY MICHAEL JOHNSON▲ Charles Turner will make his third start at center on Saturday, but if he were to get hurt — there aren't many options behind him. Garrett Dellinger, who started at the center position for LSU's opening game against Florida State, is out this week with a broken hand, meaning Brian Kelly will have to find an answer. "We had moved (true freshman) Fitzgerald West from offense to defense to give us some some depth on the defensive line," Kelly said. "So, he hasn't been playing center. So, we're scrambling a little bit to find that next center. Quite frankly, we made a couple of moves here today to give us some depth at that position." Marlon Martinez was the backup center last week against New Mexico. West played center and guard on the offensive line as well as defensive line in high school. He was the No. 6 defensive lineman in the state of Louisiana, according to 247Sports. He was an early enrollee at LSU this spring and has played in three games this season. 2023 DB Isaac Smith will be the making the visit this weekend for the Ole Miss game. High 4* prospect out of Mississippi. Predictions are all over the place, so could be a guy to watch. Only just picked up an LSU offer a few weeks ago.
Nothing new, those have been the 3 biggest players for a while now, I think, plus maybe Maryland. He was planning on making his official visit for the Tennessee game, but with the 11am kickoff, had to reschedule. He will now be on campus for his official on December 3rd. Sucks that he won't be here for a game, but on the plus side, he will get to spend a lot more time with the coaches. If he signs early, getting him last could be huge, though I'm not sure he will. I think South Carolina is the leader at the moment.
2024 5* CB Desmond Ricks has reclassified to the 2023 class. He was the unanimous #2 player in the country in the 2024 class. Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, and LSU are the leaders.
