The Chester commitment bumps our rating up to 287.36 on 247, which moves us up to 4th, just ahead of OSU. 247 analysts saying this could be the best OL class in the SEC, if not the country.
Desmond Ricks, Javien Toviano, and Isaac Smith will all be in town for the game this weekend. 247's Steve Wiltfong says he thinks LSU has a chance to land all three. That would give us possible the best DB class in the country too. That would also give us our highest rated class of all time on 247.
That was back in September, I think. He made the trip, and we were the leader then. Then he had a visit to Alabama, and that's when we lost him.
Desmond Ricks has released his top 3: LSU, Alabama, and Florida. Set his commitment date to Dec. 23rd.
You know, I've been thinking about making a post on this. 5 stars are great and all, but the GREAT teams are built with 4 stars (and above). If you look at Alabama, they consistently get 20-25 4 and 5 stars, but are always getting 20+. They are the only team that does that year in and year out, and that is the reason they have been the most dominant team of the last decade. There is a very good chance we end up with 22-23 4 star and above players in the class, which is something we have never done. As I mentioned before, there is a chance we end up with our highest rated class of all time, which is impressive, but more importantly, the class is balanced. There are blue chip players at every position, something Ed Orgeron was never really able to do. This class, as it stands right now, is a phenomenal class, and we're not done yet.
And we leap-frogged Notre Dame. Kelly must feel some sense of poetic justice. I've said it before...I give Marcus Freeman and his staff credit for "sealing the deal" on their recruits but a lot of these kids were were being worked by Brian Kelly and Polian up until they left Notre Dame to come to LSU. Quite impressive that Kelly has had a hand in not one, but two top 10 recruiting classes for the 2023 cycle.
5* players that are indefinitely suspended (like those two from A&M’s top rated class of last year) don’t help at all. Character matters, and this is where the class CBK is assembling may actually be better thans some others with higher point totals.
On3 recruiting director Chad Simmons says LSU is the team to beat for Desmond Ricks. Right now, Ricks has three official visits locked in. He will be at Alabama on Nov. 25, Florida on Dec. 2 and LSU on Dec. 16. Very good for us to have his last official visit before he signs. He will be an early enrollee.
