Yep, one season left from the covid year. Rated as a 4* transfer and was first team all Big-12. Day one starter and a huge get.
247 now has recruit, transfer, and overall rankings and has LSU currently 9th in the overall rankings: https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Football/OverallTeamRankings/
The best part of that is what pushed us into the overall top 10 is that we are ranked #1 in transfers, while being #18 in recruits. AND we have many more of spots left for recruit commitments than the teams ranked above us. So we should move up the overall standings even more - possibly nudging #5. The point is I was afraid the talent acquisition part of this offseason was a step back - and it might not be. We'll see how this all shakes out after the official signing period but at this point you have to give the newly assembled coaching staff some credit here.
Agree, they have done a terrific job so far. Positions that were a disaster a month ago (DB, OL) now look stable. I am still a bit concerned with where this will leave us in 2024, when the core of the team would be guys from this year's HS class, but we have a few years to figure that out. I suspect Kelly will try to add a few transfers over the next couple of years to fill out that gap. It's huge though that you can now look at the defense and see quality starters at every position. I'd guess something like: DE - Ali Gaye DT - Maason Smith DT - Jaquelin Roy DE - BJ Ojulari Rotation - Jarell Cherry, Saivion Jones, Mekhi Wingo, Joe Evans, Jacobian Guillory, Bryce Langston LB - Micah Baskerville LB - Mike Jones Rotation - West Weeks (maybe a starter), Greg Penn, Antoine Sampah, Phillip Webb, Josh White, Harold Perkins??? CB - Jarrik Bernard-Converse SS - Major Burns FS - Jay Ward NB - Sage Ryan CB - Greg Brooks Rotation - Mekhi Williams-Garner, Joe Foucha, Raydarious Jones, Damarius McGhee That's pretty solid. Need to find some depth behind those guys and another LB or two, but there will be a lot of backups with playing time, too.
And I didn't even include any freshmen, except for the somewhat tongue-in-cheek Perkins. I think Quincy Wiggins and Laterrance Welch are early contributors, and Jacoby Matthews if we get him.
Names and times to watch tomorrow: 3* CB Jaelyn Davis-Robinson: 9:30am Davis-Robinson is a late bloomer that just picked up an LSU offer last week. Did not receive a rating in the 247 composite until yesterday. 10.50 100-meter speedster. Only played in 17 high school games and has a high ceiling. Consensus seems to be that he is an LSU lock. Attended the big last recruiting visit weekend at LSU (January 28th). 4* RB Trevonte' Citizen: 11:00am ESPN Everone knows this guy. Probably coming down to LSU and Auburn, but Florida and Miami (late) are also in the mix. 3* TE Danny Lewis: 1:00pm Battle with Alabama and Florida, nobody seems to know what he is thinking. 5* LB Harold Perkins: 1:15pm CBSHQ All the latest buzz seems to be positive for LSU, with a few "experts" predicting an LSU decision. Probably between LSU and A&M, but Florida is in on him, too. His last visit was to LSU, which is good news for us. Was at the big January 28th visit weekend. 3* WR Caleb Douglas: 1:30pm Another late bloomer, played 2 seasons at WR after moving from QB. LSU and Florida are his final two, probably a Florida lean. Also at the big January 28th visit weekend. 4/5* S Jacoby Matthews: 6:00pm CBSHQ Everyone knows this guy, too. Was also in attendance January 28th weekend. Most "experts" expect him to pick LSU. There is even some buzz that Matthews and Perkins are a package deal. A&M and Florida also battling.
Hearing that Perkins brought a lot of family with him on his official visit this weekend. That seems significant.
I think Mom is on record saying she wants him to go to LSU. The last time that shit happened the mom was pissed off on national tv
Jaelyn Davis-Robinson picks LSU. Pulled kind of a ridiculous strip down layer stunt, faking the Oregon Ducks. Rose to a 4* on Rivals with a rating of 5.8, so they are pretty high on him.
