It's my understanding his mom wanted him out of the state of Florida more than anything. It's been "reported" from a few beat writers that the group he's been hanging out with as a teen has possible gang involvement. I can't say for sure one way or another but can say there's certainly reason to suspect that might be the case. I've seen mention of the gang involvement from more than one recruiting beat writer and from more than one school.
So, take that for what it's worth. I really hope that's not the case. No matter who, or where, it's sad to see situations go badly with kids how have a lot of potential.
I do find it a bit ironic that few here believe Surtain was having a hard time with his decision up until the last hour and yet here we are talking about Copeland...when his process went along the same lines.

Had a bad year? What? There were a few misses like there are every year but if you've convinced yourself the '18 class was a bad class for Bama...dude, take a pause. Not having the #1 ranked class doesn't equate to having a bad class. Hell, even ESPN graded the class as an A+.
FWIW, the class isn't over yet. There are a few spots still open for the '18 class with several transfers looking at Bama. Even if those few spots aren't filled soon they will be by January of '19--remember, you can have as many as five back-counters as long as they are early enrollees.
