Texas decommit Toby Weathersby now considering three By Wescott Eberts @SBN_Wescott on Dec 15 2014, 10:11p 13 Toby Weathersby at the 2013 Dallas NFTC - Wescott Eberts (SB Nation) Arkansas, LSU, and Ole Miss are now battling for the highly-rated offensive tackle. Tweet (23) Share (54) Share The No. 2 offensive tackle in the state of Texas is now on the market again after Houston (Texas) Westfield's Toby Weathersby decommitted from the Texas Longhorns on Monday. He's now headed to the SEC and will choose between three schools: For those unfamiliar with the hashtags, those schools are Arkansas, Ole Miss, and LSU. The loss for Texas and the Big 12 represents another in a growing trend of players headed to the nation's premier conference, sapping talent from programs like the Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners. None of the three schools were seriously on the radar for Weathersby prior to his decommitment -- he had been considered an Oklahoma lean when he committed to Texas back in March and then took an unofficial visit to Texas A&M with a teammate in November. A consensus four-star prospect, Weathersby is ranked as the No. 108 prospect in the country, the No. 9 offensive tackle nationally, and the No. 14 player in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Now those three SEC programs will be jockeying to land official visits from the Westfield product who has strong skills as a run blocker and in pass protection. If early playing time is a consideration, the Arkansas left tackle is a sophomore and the right tackle is a senior. In Baton Rouge, La'el Collins is about to exhaust his eligibility on the quarterback's blind side, while his counterpart on the right side is a sophomore. Ole Miss, meanwhile, has a sophomore left tackle and a junior It's possible that Weathersby could play early in the right side since the transition to left tackle from high school is often difficult, even for top prospects, which would give the Razorbacks the edge. But if he wants a chance to start at left tackle, LSU would provide the best opportunity. Wherever he lands, Weathersby would represent a significant pledge for any of those schools since he has that potential to play left tackle in college.
Based on composite ranking of all the major services, 247sports has the following average per recruit ranking (I have taken out any long snappers): 1. Alabama = 92.94 2. Florida State = 92.16 3. USC = 90.76 4. LSU = 90.43 5. Georgia = 90.19 6. UCLA = 90.14 7. Texas A&M = 90.13 8. Ohio State = 90.08 9. Penn State = 89.98 10. Auburn = 89.79
I was looking back to 2012, an the number of players in the NFL. At this time, LSU had 36 former players. La Natives( schools outside the state) had 27 on rosters. Then instate schools other than LSU( ULaf, Tech, Tulane, etc) had 21. You don't get all of the state players, but looking at these numbers, over the years, LSU has done well. A little more into it, of all the La players, the number of QB's on the lists from La, there were two. The Manning Brothers.
Good thing LSU stayed away from Chad Kelly -- the kid was arrested earlier today... http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/ole-miss-football/ole-miss-qb-commit-chad-kelly-arrested/
Oshea Dugas a OL here in La has given a verbal to La Tech, some word he was waiting for an LSU offer.
That's because Louisiana kids for the most part at that position are running backs playing quarterback.
