from the person who authored the book on it and from the school who wrote the manuscript, thats what we call audacity.
Smart move by him. He had a ton of visits lined up the next few weeks and I can assure you some would have backed off for taking too long. Coaches don't like to not know what the numbers are going to be for that long. I am assuming Auburn put the pressure on.
tirk, you're smart enough to at least look to see if things you've heard are true. It's not hard to be audacious when you know something. You, of all people, know this.
I think you are right. Plus, the problem I had with him possibly picking Alabama is supposedly, his guardians in Alabama are big Auburn fans. They MIGHT let him pick LSU if he really wanted to go with them, but my guess the police would have had to be called out if he went with Alabama. Auburn was in on him first, LSU second, and Alabama came in very late on him from what has been written about his recruitment. It would have been a nice get for LSU but to be honest, I was more disappointed about LSU not getting CeCe Jefferson. Prince Tega is a project...he simply hasn't played football very long and his broken leg isn't going to help him with gaining experience quickly. Tega looks to be headed towards a RS or very, very limited action as a FR. Jefferson is a plug and play guy right now.
According to the guy I know on the Alabama staff they have been recruiting him for a good while now. Almost everyone was on him later than other prospects due to the reclassifying from 2016 to 2015. Including LSU...
Just heard an 11 minute podcast where James Smith the recruiting analyst was interviewed. Of course as published on NOLA.com, he says Weathersby to LSU, Dillon to LSU, Lewis to LSU, and Gibson he thinks is 50/50 for Ohio State/LSU. But since he said he thought LSU would only sign 24, it must be 51/49 . Next are the 2 most interesting opinions by him: 1) "Arden Key will be the most talented DE on the entire LSU roster. I will be surprised if he isn't starting by game 6 as a DE" 2) "Last year I rated the LSU class as A-,. brought down a bit by what was left on the table. But if LSU signs who I expect them to sign, I rate this an A+ since this wasn't the best year in LA. I say they end up 3rd or 4th on 24/7 composite team ratings."
Not sure how it can be an A+ when our glaring need of lb's isn't filled. Very good class considering the LA talent this year.
Yea I agree...A+ is a little much. LB, QB, DL could of all been a little better. Assuming Weathersby is on board then they really saved themselves in that department with him and OVC late in the game. State talent was down some so that does help our grade IMO. I don't really follow or put much stock into rankings. Filling needs and grabbing in-state talent is what is most important IMO.
I agree with you and Mobius both. I assume he graded on the curve The talent in LA was not up to the normal level...really too concentrated in WRers and CBs and RBs. But if LSU gets Lewis, at least they got the best MLB around and DT was not really a priority given next year's class of DTs in LA...the strength of the state. QBs are hard to find and very hard to project. JS also said and I agree that this might end up being the best LSU OL recruiting in many years. Also, hard to criticize the secondary and WRers and RBs...all 3 areas outstanding. And LSU did end up getting 2 4* DEs, an area of need. Really, LBer was the main shortcoming...needed probably 2 or 3....hopefully gets one.
