Meaning that you think Florida is quick to pull scholarships if the kid isn't measuring up on the field?[/quote] On the field, in the classroom. Some incoming freshman don't qualify. I know some schools pull schollies for performance and it can be a lame practice IMO. Last year, USC asked FB Jody Adewale (practice squad guy, never played) to give up his spot but he retained a GA spot in the Athletic Department. We had so many injuries that at the end of the season we asked him to come back and he did. When he got put in toward the end of the RB, he got perhaps the loudest cheers of the cleanup crew. Poor kid. He took a bus to school and managed to fit work, homework, and travel into the football schedule. He has a poor family, illnesses, the works, and didn't feel right about living on campus. I think he earns his MA in Social Work in another year.
I think that is an average attrition rate for most schools. 2 or 3 from every class either never qualify or flunk out at some point. 1 or 2 transfer to get more playing time or because they are homesick. 1 or 2 will quit football due to injuries but will stay in school. 1 or 2 will be dismissed for misbehavior. Les dismissed five for off-campus behavior last summer.
20% attrition is about average, due to players leaving the team - transferring, quitting, being kicked off, or leaving early for the NFL. Non-qualifiers do not count towards attrition.
