What's the deal with Greg Shaw by the way? I remember hearing his name early last year as a possible elite prospect, but he's a 3-star on scout and 4-star on rivals. Did he not perform well at camps or just was evaluated poorly? Certainly has the frame to be a big time offensive linemen.
Not sure if it was just a selective quote, but the tigerbait story I was reading had Miles specifically mentioning Shaw & saying that he'd be a great LT. From what I've heard about him, he's got the frame & athleticism, but his technique is raw.
Favortie Recruit: Patrick Johnson, he is just loaded with talent. My favorite position on the field is DB, it is the harders to play, especially in the SEC. but this kid could be starting by the 4th game or so. Other Favorites: Tim Molton, Chris Tolliver, D"Angelo Benton-I love speed, definitely when it is at WR and DB. Ryan Baker, when I watched this kids video I was so impressed with his instinct. Karnell Hatcher- you talking about can hit, he impresses me. Most Underrated: Brandon Taylor and Derrick Bryant I think these 2 make an immediate impact in the secondary.
Kind of off subject here, but it looks like our attrition rate is fairly high. 20% I was looking at the LSU football team rosters for 2005, 2006 and 2007, and then looked at the recruiting classes of '06, '07 and '08. I was trying to look at possible depth-chart changes for next year and 2009, but have noticed that there are a lot of kids that sign LOI, or are on the roster one year as a Freshman or Soph and are NOT on the following year's roster. My point/ question here is, we must have a lot of kids that flunk out, transfer to another school, quit because they can't cut it, or get kicked off the team. From what I've seen (an initial look) I would guess that 5+ out of every signing class aren't around by what would be their senior year. This also explains how a school can sign 25 guys a year and still only have 85 on scholarship, while some of those kids are 5 year students. Just something I noticed. All I was trying to do was get my own feel for how good we could/would be in the next 2-4 years. Sorry for taking up too much space with my random bablings!!! :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
1) As a whole I think the class is pretty solid, particularly at the OL and DL, although I am sorry it did not make the top 10. I know it is #11 and that is not a big difference. I guess breaking the top 10 is symbolic for me. The big disappointment was that we could not convince Jermaine Thomas or McClain to jump on board. 2) This is a tough question for me. But I will say Chase Clement. I think he was underrated by Rivals. 3) I suspect the cornerback position will be very open which should give Patrick Johnson a good chance to jump in and make his presence felt in September. 4) My favorite is Jordan Jefferson. A true sleeper, he has enourmous talent and may turn a few heads in years down the road.
It happens to every team I doubt that LSU is any higher in that regard than the average program. Most coaches factor in a spot or two knowing that someone will xfer, become academically disqualified, get arrested, etc. We actually just had one of our DB's leave the team to prepare for law school. I do believe there are teams who play on that though by bringing in extra large classes and then many of the kids just disappear from the roster. Look at Florida for instance. :yelwink2:
