http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&div=IA&site=org An eye opener for me. We HAVE to do better than this. Out of 120 teams: Rushing 88 Passing 103 Total O 109 Scoring 89 Passing Efficeincy 46 Sacks Allowed 107 1st Down O 94 3d Down Eff. 70 Red Zone 76 TOP 81 Tackles For Loss Allowed 77 We're in the top half in only one category. Here are out stats vis-a-vis the SEC: http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2009/Internet/conf stats/2009000000911TD.HTML FYI, last in Total O and 2d to last in Scoring O. I take Miles at his word that he'll get in going in two weeks. Go Tigers!!!
And sad comments from CFN's rankings today: 16. LSU 5-1 Last Week: L, Florida 13-3 This Week: Off, Auburn Why the ranking is too high: The offense wasn't just bad against Florida because Florida is fantastic; the offense was bad because it's bad. The Tigers are last in the SEC in total offense, which is tough to do in a conference with Vanderbilt, while the defensive line hasn't been anything to write home about. LSU ... LSU ... is last in the SEC in sacks and tackles for loss. Why the ranking is too low: The athletes are there and the talent is there to do far more. Yeah, the Florida game could've been played for 25 quarters and LSU probably wouldn't have scored more than three points, but the defense held the Gators to just 13 points. The defense, despite the shoddy play on the line, is doing a decent job overall.
I firmly believe Miles, his staff and our team will continue to give their all. The season isn't over and LSU still controls its own destiny. We need to adopt one of Winston Chruchill's famous quotes as our mantra: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” :thumb: Go Tigers!!! Winston Churchill quotes
Oddly enough, if we win out, we're national champions again. That's a crazy ass thing to think about. And the way the defense is playing, the offense finally clicking is all it would take for that to happen. We'll see where we are after the Auburn game.
I really appreciate this optimism. I sadly have to say that I just can't get my hopes up anymore about this team. I think our offense has had AMPLE time to "fix" whatever problems we have. At this point, no teams fear us, nor should they. I won't be gloom and doom...but we aren't very respectful and it is what it is. I hope you're right, meanwhile I will be watching from behind the couch with my hands and feet tied so I don't tear up any more of my furniture.
Okay, CLM realizes how bad we are statistically, and sees first-hand how terrible the offense has performed. Even with a green QB, seems to me we should be executing better, thus scoring more. I'm not going to rehash the hundreds of posts since the FL game as to what has gone wrong, what it might take to fix it, etc. The question is, will Miles do something, anything to right the ship? A related question, is it an easy fix? I've never played football, so to me the problem looks complicated and not an easy fix (OL issues, QB issues, etc.)... That said, maybe I'm overlooking some things and perhaps just a few tweaks here and there will lead to improvements. The D is looking great; the O needs to follow suit, and quickly. :geauxtige
