Lord PLEASE dont jinx the boy by wishing he become Jamarcus Russell. Strong arm, no QB savvy at all. had they played Flynn a year earlier we might have another Crystal. glad he left early, was glad to see him go. Wish that he would have played for Bama.
when Lee was put in it went the same way only worse. Our play calling has fallen to a new LOW. Is there something to describe below pitiful? Dude is 19 years old and our OC wants him to throw 3rd and 9 - 20 EVERY set of downs. Who's wrong here the young QB or the maniac in the booth? Gee wally maybe its the OC. Gosh Beav I think you're right.
Who is 19 years old? Lee? Lee is 20. He's a junior in college. He redshirted in 2007, but he's been at LSU for 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Hey, I'm not spinning anything. Inaccurate is inaccurate whether it's a one-yard pass or a 20-yard pass. An inaccurate QB can't hit anything with accuracy over 60% of the time. JJ's not inaccurate. Could he be more accurate? Absolutely. To me, it's more the timing of his throws that is the issue. His WRs could probably get more yards if he led them a little more letting them do more after the catch. He has gotten a little better at that, but it's something he needs to keep working on. I think he's a decent QB right now, but he has a lot of work to do. The sack thing is major issue and the decision time needs to be MUCH faster. I haven't always been happy with him, but he's out there with very little running game and very inconsistent blocking. Ole Miss was nailing him with just a 3-man rush at times. Look, Flynn only averaged I think 6.7 per attempt in our championship year and he took like 26 sacks or something like that in the 12 games he played in. I think he averaged about 20 yards more per game passing, but the biggest difference was the running game back then. We don't have that right now. And for the record, Flynn was better then and I loved him (he was great in the clutch), but the numbers don't have to be unbelievable for us to challenge for the SEC, etc. Jefferson definitely needs to improve, but the running game is an even bigger issue.
Ya, and he beat out our 20 year old. So what's your problem with letting him throw the ball? We have great WRs, we'd be dumb not to have our best QB throw the ball.
Just my observation, one thing affects another. I have seen LSU! on the TV all year and like most others here was calling for Crowtons head on a platter. I had the opportunity to watch the game in person on Saturday and the first thing I noticed was JJ's inability to see downfield and determine who was open. On numerous occasions (5 or 6) Brandon Lafelle was wide open and JJ either tucked and ran the ball or threw it short to a covered receiver. This is not Crowtons fault, however Crowton runs an overcomplicated offense with multiple sets and everyone has to execute for it to work, which is not happening (aka penalties and time outs due to uncertainty of where and what a players' role for that play is), this is Crowtons fault. He needs to simplify the players' roles to be more productive. The OL is not as good as it needs to be to play at a level indicative of BCS championships, they are slow and lack power off the ball. And what about this bend but don't break defense we have that was to be more aggressive after hiring Chavis. The last thing I noticed was strength and conditioning, this team got weaker as the game went on in my opinion. I don't think you can point to any one thing that will fix the problems LSU is having, there is more than one problem that needs to be addressed and Crowtons firing won't be the answer. Flame away boys and girls.
Actually I totally agree with your post. I have been skeptical all along and wondered if CLM's could keep the program up to the level that he inherited and the clear answer is NO! The only thing he has maintained at that level Imho is rb, wr and the defensive secondary. Our lines at the line of scrimmage isn't as dominant as When CLM's arrived. The Qb position is weak, We had better Qb play under JF to be honest about it. I also saw several times where JJ for whatever the reason had an open wr and missed it. I've always been a JJ guy, he made some big time throws the other night but he missed a few also. Like I said in the game thread, with about a minute left in the 3rd JJ was locked onto TT on the right side of the field and on the left side of the field BL was wide open and had a td if thrown. I understand that sometimes Qb's miss things but to fix this offense and compete at the level we use to be at, all things from the offensive side of the ball have to be looked at! I still say Crowton is part of the problem and should be gone. He still takes the blame for the offense being so poor as well as the problems we've had at Qb. You have me worried now, conditioning? I have wondered about that with players cramping up but figured because the D was on the field for so long. I am a big CLM's fan as far as attitude, personality, etc but that can only take you so far! I hope he turns out to be more successful the next few years. I am truly hoping and wishing for this.:geaux:
i think its on Crowton, and Miles because Miles is signing off on the decisions Crowton makes. If the receivers are missing assignments or not running the right routes, its the on the coaches for not having them prepared. To me, the worst part about this whole season is how Crowton tried to turn Jefferson ( a guy they had no confidence in at the end of last season, and the beginning of this season) into Graham Harrell running 5 wide empty backfield sets 75% of the time. Crowton took his offense and tried to make Jordan fit, instead of molding an offense around JJ and his skill set. If you are a green quarterback your best friend is your running game. The running game opens up opportunities in the passing game. LSU's running backs are averaging 5.4 yards per carry, and it seems that LSU this season just abandoned the run at times, and tried to turn Jefferson into a gunslinger. I think the coaching staff was absolutely horrible this season when it came to the offensive philosophy. Alot of people will say that LSU had no identity on offense, and that just isn't true, our identity was 5 wide empty or bust from Vandy on out, and i am sorry but that isn't Jordan Jefferson.
