Jefferson looks like a deer in the headlights. He has made absolutely no improvement all season long. Does he not have the mental tools or does he not have the coaching? I guess we will find out next year. Either way he is a very poor QB at this point in his career.
That's just incorrect. Do you not remember how he would not throw a pass beyond the LOS for about the first 5 or 6 games of the season? He's well ahead of where he was at the beginning of the year, but he's still got a lot of work to do in some of the mental aspects.
I stick by my statement of no improvement. He still has zero pocket presence. He doesn't feel the rush and step up in the pocket. He is horribly inaccurate. He is very indecisive on when to tuck it and run and he still has absolutely no clue how to run the option. He is a below average SEC QB that has light years to go to even be decent. He has tons of potential and I'm pulling for him but he seems to be stuck on stupid and has been all season.
JJ has second highest completion % in the SEC. He is not an option QB. It's not his fault. Hell Peyton Manning would be horrible in the option, does that make him bad?
His biggest problem, to be sure. But did you not see him duck that unblocked DE in the red zone tonight? He has improved, regardless of whether or not you want to admit it. The second-highest completion percentage in the SEC disagrees with you. Not having the ability to run the option doesn't make you a bad QB. However, it does makes your coaches bad if they insist on running it time and again with a QB who so clearly lacks that ability.
Yes, the SEC is just loaded with stud QB's this year. You can pick and chose stats to spin just about anything. Hell politicians do it every day. Jefferson at this point in his career is simply not a good QB. His passing efficiency/QB rating puts him 6th in the SEC ahead of Crompton, Snead, Garcia, Lee and Smith some really struggling QB's. His yards per attempt are ahead of only Garcia, Lee and Smith at 7.2, which means short safe passes. He also ranks 6th in interception to TD/ratio ahead of the same list of poor QB's. You can always find one stat to back any argument, however you don't need stats to see that he is struggling, you only need eyes. Like I said, he has potential but he is a long long way from reaching it. Hopefully a new QB coach will make a world of difference.
I just hope GC is gone and they give Shep a true shot at playing QB for us next year. JJ is horrible, will never be an SEC caliber QB, looks like he is about to cry after every sack he takes.......you dont think the coaches are telling him to THROW THE BALL AWAY and DONT TAKE THE SACK!!! yet he still does it over and over, yes I know the oline has not helped but other QBs do better and have worse. He telegraphs all plays to his receivers and can not run the option if his name was option...........no pocket prescence whatsoever, can not read defenses and his throwing mechanics speak for themself. He is not at Destrehan High School anymore! Just think if we had a Mallet or someone of that caliber and I why is it LSU does not ever recruit or DEVELOPE OR get a Heisman type of QB?? or anything close to one!!!! Saintslogo
2nd year sophmore. Jamarcus Russell wasn't very good at that point in his career either. A year later he was holding up the Sugar Bowl MVP trophy, and LSU fans were chanting "one more year" at him. Give him time....and a better QB coach/offensive coordinator than Crowton.
That's what I said, he just isn't good now. He definitely has the potential and I definitely would like to see what a real QB coach can do with him.
