Even when Lee has time, he still locks onto one guy all the way. When throwing a screen to a RB and having time, he'll pump fake it. I've never seen a QB pump fake a screen to a RB.

The whole point of a screen is to catch the defense off guard, but when you pump fake it, it draws the defense toward the receiver before he catches it. Lee pump faked the screen against Auburn and it was returned for a TD, and he did it again against UGA.

The bottom line is this: when he has time, it doesn't seem to make any difference, because he still is locked onto one guy/stares him down all the way, drawing the defense toward the ball. He doesn't even set his feet. He's either throwing off of his back foot or off of his toes/pads of his feet. He has terrible footwork.

But I do believe our line can block better. I think their strength seems to be in the running game more so than the passing.

Our receivers are getting open but Lee looks at only 1 receiver.

Not a damn thing wrong with our OL. Charles Scoot has 889 yards so far & has the #1 YPC in the SEC at 6.7 yard a pop. Freshman Stevan Ridley is getting 7.7 a pop with limited carries so far. Anyway back to the OL, a few games back, Lee threw a perfect & I mean perfect 40 yarder down the left sideline, splitting 2 DBs, and laid it in the hands of the normally sure handed Bryd. He just dropped it. That was a TD. I don't know why the normally reliable WRs get the dropsies every once in awhile. But the OL has done a great job this year. There were several dropped passes Saturday against Tulane. It was good to see Freshman Mitch Joseph going out for a pass Saturday, even though he missed it. He won't miss the next one. LSU looked to me like they were looking ahead a just a bit.

Lee has great potential. Think about this, he's played in 8 games at LSU, started maybe 5 games? Lee is 3rd in pass effeciency in the SEC, behind only Tebow & Stafford. Of course he needs to improve on his 12 TDs/10 INTs Ratio & I think he will. Stafford as a Freshman threw 7 TDs & 13 INTs.

AS for "Locking onto" & "Staring down" WRs, every LSU QB that has been accused of this going back into the 1980's. Hodson was even accused of this, and he was a 4 Time All-SEC QB. Your QB is throwing a 40 yarder down field, you expect him to start looking at the Golden Girls, maybe give 'em a quick wink? It's an overused cliche' brought on by people who watch way too much ESPN.

Nice post. I agree with much of this. Am I the only one who thinks Lee is going to be a possible Heisman caliber QB. I have cut him slack. ANY freshman will have flashes of brilliance, then boneheaded growing pains. The pick sixes are just bizarre to me. Aside from the initial Georgia INT, I have been perplexed by how the interceptor is not getting caught.:thumb:

Maybe he should learn to do the fake "stare" while watching out for the real receiver out of the corner of his eye:hihi:

Seriously, he should develope the habit of opening up his field of view and make quicker decisions, esp. when he has such a nice quick release. Go with his gut feelings rather than trying to focus TOO hard. I guess easier said than done. Perhaps that's something that comes with experience and maturity. He should also change his mindset: go out and enjoy the game of football; accept the challenge and have fun. Show the rest of his team some fire!

I agree!!! Lee is locking onto his receivers and not looking off the defenders, the wide receivers are not getting open and are dropping a lot of passes and the O-line is not protecting him very well. Yes, and the coaches are apparently not working with him very well because he is doing the same thing over and over.

On a positive note what a great weapon he has. Everybody in town knows he locks onto his receivers. All he has to do look to the right, maybe even do a pump fake that way, if the O-line gives him time that is and when the entire defense moves that way then throw to the wide open receiver on he left for a TD. If the receiver doesn't drop it that is.

Sometimes I amaze myself. Sometimes not.

Alabama gives up 200 yards a game in the air. They can be thrown on . . . especially if they have to put 8 in the box to stop Scott. Unfortunately we can also be thrown on, giving up 205 yards a game . . .

Dudley, while most ar not agreeing with you about the OL play, you forgot to add another ESPN inspired Cliche' surrounding every QB in LSU's recent history. I bet if you think really hard, you'll suddenly discover "Lee's been throwing off his back foot" too..

I actually noticed this long before I heard anybody point it out. He doesn't make checks...go through progressions...stare off defenders...none of that. My theory is that he never had to in HS. I think he actually TOO talented...so much so that he never has had to learn the game. Maybe he'll take the lessons this year and understand that he has to LEARN the position...you can't just play it because you've got a nice arm and a quick release.

I guess you are being sarcastic, but I'm telling you... He locks down and throws the ball. A blind man can see where he's going with the football... BUT if he could just learn to pump fake and look for another receiver, he could be dangerous. The defense would bite on it the whole game because he never pump fakes or looks away.

In 8 games, you'd think he's learned something.
