In defense of Jarrett Lee why can't our highly touted OL give him the protection he needs to read the defense and get some time to throw. And why can't our wide recievers run better pass routes and create some space between themselves and the defenders. I have seen the game films of Lee in high school and he had time to throw and his recievers were open. His mechanics were sound before he arrived at LSU. Now he is making poor decisions and releasing the ball off his back foot while falling away. He does'nt have time to see the field and he is forcing the ball into double and triple coverage. He rarely looks off his primary target and telegraphs his throws. Who is responsible for QB coaching at LSU? OL coach Studrawa needs to teach these kids to pass protect. WR coach McCarthy needs to teach these kids to run better routes. What is happening in practice? Because I don't see any improvement from week to week. Come'on COACHES and help these guys. It's fundamentals. :geaux: BEAT SATAN AND BAMA.
I agree. Lee has been awful, but he does not deserve all the blame. These WRs have all the speed in the world, but never seem to be behind the defenders this year. Even if they were, the OL is not giving time for it to develop. By the way, welcome to the board.:thumb:
Exactly. Why aren't these "NFL" receivers getting open? I know that Crowton is calling moslty dump/short passes to get Lee in a rhythm but wouldn't a deep ball do a lot more for his confidence? We need to show defenses that we can go deep and we will. I can guarantee you that Lee can throw the deep ball just as well as Flynn did if he has enough time so set his feet and throw. We will have to use the run to open up the pass, that's for sure, but when we pass we need to open it up more.
hold up...from what i have seen, the WRs and Lee are on the same page. Lee is throwing into coverage on most if not all his receivers and another, the O-Line is giving him time, he just seems to freak out back there and he tries to get rid of the ball. O-line has only given up 5 sacks when lee's back there which is pretty good considering he not a running QB
Apparently we aren't watching the same games. Lee IS throwing into coverage, because the WRs aren't very open. The last wide open WR I have seen DOWNFIELD was Mitchell against AU...and he hit him in stride. (As he was getting drilled, I might add...great blocking on that play too) As for the OL, again, we're not watching the same games. Run blocking is pretty good, but not pass blocking. I will say this in defense of the OL...it's not all on them. The RBs have missed some critical blocks on blitzes...including last night.
that would hurt. look at it this way...The WR's probably had a better bond with RP than they did with Lee or Hatch. Then, he was kicked off the team, and some freshman would have to come in a lead the team. No chemistry which hurts. If I were Miles, I would hold a separate practice for the QB's and WR after the regular practice. No playbook stuff, just pass and catch to get a little bonding time in. But all this argument about how Russell was worse than Lee his first year, or how it's someone else fault that lee is stinking it up, or how he's only 19, etc...It's all stupid. He is the only one who can really make himself better and even though he's young, he's not a baby. If he can't handle all the criticism, playing in this league, you've got a long road ahead.
I went to the UGA game. Almost every pass play at least one receiver was WIDE open but Lee didn't see him cause he locks on the primary receiver every time. His INTs this year were bad passes he threw, not the because of the blocking up front. But he's a freshman making freshman mistakes. And when dipchit RP trashed his career, we all figured LSU would have a qb problem this year. Didn't expect all the pick sixes though. And as far as Lee playing better in high school.....uh, playing in high school and playing in the SEC are two TOTALLY different things.
Gee, you're right! Needed to zoom back right away to see your point :hihi: :grin:Got distracted by that pissin' Auburn thingy....
