Absolutely! Why should it be outside expectations to be in the top 25 when you always have recruiting in the top 10?
Again I say around the to 25-30 as we will never put the ball in the air 50 or more times a game like most the teams high up in the rankings.
Im not looking for a certain offensive ranking. Id just like to see an offense that isnt one dimensional, predictable and one that uses all its weapons to keep the defense honest. The lack of use of the TEs and RBs in the passing game has been down right criminal. Just making the LBs and safeties play pass defense will greatly improve LSUs offense, just ask Bama.
Rankings take care of themselves. We are and always will be a run first power offense. That is what wins NCs. We need to be able to pass efficently and most of all take advantage of situations that give opportunities to score. In the past we have fallen into play calling ruts or changed away from success for no apparent reason. To have a plan for play calling AND the ability to adjust is what we need. That coupled with good execution will provide an offense that matches our D. If we run the offense well the rankings will follow. To obcess with rankings is to lose the forest for the trees.
I'm not expecting shit next season. Expectations are good for absolutely nothing, unless you are a coach or player. I'll be satisfied with 9 or 10 wins, and an offense that actually looks like it's played offense before.
That's kinda what we've had, which is altogether satisfying AND disappointing...a TRUE double-edged sword. FWIW, I largely agree with you. Sadly, you and I are a minority. It's all or...well, all. There seems to be no other option.
Nice write-up, but lets look at last season's TE's. We had the Old Ms. game where Travis Dickson caught 5 passes for 69 yds. You know the other two TE's Clement and Jacobs only caught 5 passes each, the entire year? How can they have brick hands, we never saw them in the offense? Thats what the NFL scout was talking about, the usage of the TE's at LSU. DeSean Smith maybe one of the better to come out of the state in years. The TE's was used at times, but not fully. Go back and look at the only rushing TD Russell Shepard had this year, the FB/HB/TE in that set was Chase Clement. As for FB's. in the Cam offense, the FB with the Ravens had 27 receptions this year. As for the WR's in this offense, most of the problem is not in the WR, it was the offense. Won't go into too much detail, but this also will change. You are right, personnel changes, gave the advantage to the other side.
