Our Offense has been limited by the fact that we have average, at best, QB's. Studthorpe stays in control next year as well. Our Offense looks "vanilla", particularly in the passing game, due to the fact that our QB's can not do much more than what they have already done, which is running safe plays (play action, slip screens, etc..). When our SEC caliber QB steps on the field next season, I look for our Offense to pick up quite a bit. We will be more vertical and will see some more complicated routes and reads from our QB. I think Studthorpe get one more year to prove they can be successful.
R U effin kidding? Please, let us enjoy THIS run before we worry about an OC. Our head coach is returning, we'll be aight.
First let me say I dont know how you would replace anyone off of a national championship team(provided lsu wins it).....Second I would not like a spread offense guy here at lsu...does not fit the personel....we would need a pro style off cord...if anything......but then again if lsu wins it all......leave well enough alone!
I think Stud and Krags have done a great job. But it does bother me that we put up way less offensive points on Bama than did Penn State or Arky. I mean ... Arky put up 14 points on Bama. They just didn't have a defense that could stop a highschool team. Even Penn State, drove the ball down twice from their own territory and scored a FG and TD with two point conversion. LSU ... on the otherhand, only scored 3 points on offense. The other 6 were compliments of the defense and OT. Somebody mentioned slip screen ... when?? I haven't see us run a slip screen. I've seen the quick pass to the WR, but no good use of the slip screen as a last check down. All of our screens are designed to be screens, hence, we get little clearance of the defense, and little gain. With Lee and JJ, I'm really suprised that the RB screen is not a bigger part of our offense. ... BUT .. maybe it's Miles and not Studthorpe. I mean .. a RB screen is not a super difficult pass to make ... hell, even McCarron could do it.
With the exception of points scored - which I guess is the bottom line - we have not had great offensive production.
Red zone offense has been night and day compared to last year. I'd rather have that than a team like Bama that can run up and down the field but struggles to punch it in.
Not at all. I am firmly in the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it column. My pont is that there is an indication something is broken. Here are LSU'S offensive stats from the NCAA: Total Offense: Not ranked Passing efficiency: #17 Passing Offense: Not ranked Red Zone Offense: #2 Rushing Offense: #38 Scoring Offense: Tied at #20 with FSU Time of Possession: #10 3rd down conversion %: #41 1st downs: Not ranked We are not even ranked in total offense, in passing offense and in 1st downs and are far down in rushing offense and 3rd down conversions, which is a critical offensive statistic. These figures are what motivated this thread.
