LSU gave up just 16 points off turnovers this season. An insanely low number. Here are the 8 turnovers by LSU. 1. Fumble vs Oregon run back to LSU 20 yard line. The LSU defense held Oregon to 7 yards and forced a FG. 2. Jakari Gore loses fumble vs Northwestern State. The LSU defense held NW State to -3 yards and forced a punt. 3. Interception by Lee vs Mississippi State. The LSU defense held MSU to -5 yards and forced a punt. 4. Interception by Lee vs Alabama. The LSU defense held Alabama to 19 yards total offense and blocked a 49 yard FG attempt. 5. Interception by Lee vs Alabama. The LSU defense held Alabama to just 6 yards on a 3 and out and Alabama settled for a FG. 6. Fumble by Beckham on kickoff return vs Western Kentucky. The LSU defense held WKU to -1 yard and forced a punt. 7. Arkansas scores a TD off the fumble by Ford. The LSU defense never stepped on the field. 8. Jefferson throws an interception in the redzone vs Arkansas. Arkansas gets a FG (big 60 yard plus run after catch with LSU missed tackle on the drive). This season, the LSU defense gave up ONLY 3 points on 8 turnovers in which the other team gained at least 1 first down. The remaining touchdown and 2 FGs were scored with the defense either not on the field or stopping the opposition to a 3 and out and forcing a FG. The only reason we gave up the 3 points was due to a missed tackle after a catch by the opposition. That is simply incredible and unheard of.
The simplified formations for the offense have been much better than the stupid "different looks" and ridiculous substitutions of which Crowton was so very fond. The play of the OL has been very good, as well. They have been largely dominant.
Because of your punter and the plus 22 on turnovers, I've been intrigued all year... game by game... by the amazing field position LSU has had to start drives. LSU has had 71 scoring drives this year (in regulation) and 27 of them started from your 40 yard line or better. Only 14 times did you start a scoring drive from inside your own 20. You had 9 drives that started in enemy territory and 18 that started between your 40 and 50 yard line. Not many teams have that formula for success.... and most quarterbacks would have better numbers if they could start most drives far from their own goal line...
That's just the way people are izzy .. Lee threw 2 ints in the Bama Game .. and now he sucks and we should be playing JJ. In the words of one poster, he should be thankful that he's played as much as he has. JJ went back to last years form in the GA game ... perception goes with it. But I agree with the thread above that thumbs turnovers and F.P., as well as ST play. The last two games have been carried on the back of TM7, who changed the momentum in both.
