Saints may have taken Vadal Alexander in the 7th but Oakland took him 3 picks ahead. Too bad because I think that would have been a perfect 7th round pick and a position of need
I can give the benefit of the doubt as far as them thinking he can play in the league. My question is, did we really have to trade up to get this unknown player?
Loomis said in his post draft presser that their info indicated several teams were looking at Onyemata. Take that for what its worth.
This looks like a C-, maybe a C or even B- draft to me. Rankins was certainly a quality pick, and I tihnk Bell could step in as the nickel back right away. Lasco, I think, was a steal at 7. But Thomas looks like he'll need a redshirt year, and Onyemata just makes no sense, especially with having to trade up to get him. The biggest negative is not getting a pass rusher, and he was sitting right there for the taking. We could have had Lawson at 12, and the shuffling that would have occurred from Rankins falling back would likely have made Robinson from 'Bama available at our number 2 pick; he went one pick before we took Thomas. We also didn't get an o'lineman, although Landon Turner, a G from UNC who many projected as a 4th rounder, is tweeting that he's going to the Saints. And let's throw in an asterisk...this year's rookie class effectively includes PJ Williams and Davis Tull from last year's class. So...I give it a C-, call it a C if Bell has an immediate impact or if Thomas is able to contribute at all as a rookie, a B- if both happen.
Hopefully, they'll find a couple of gems with undrafted FAs, but like tirk said, I don't trust their insight.
