I'm hoping Preston Parker makes the team. A Saints blogger thinks we will keep 5 at most 6 WRs on the final 53: Colston, Moore, Toon, Stills as locks...and with Parker, Tanner and Roby fighting for the last spot or two
Mike Triplett's projection for the 53 http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2013/08/on_the_bubble_new_orleans_sain.html WIDE RECEIVER In: Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Kenny Stills, Nick Toon, Courtney Roby, Preston Parker Out: Andy Tanner, Saalim Hakim, Tim Toone, Joe Morgan (to injured reserve) What Could Change: The top four spots are locked in, but there are some question marks surrounding the final one or two. Roby should be safe as long as the team believes he'll recover quickly from the turf toe injury he suffered in camp. ... I don't see the Saints keeping six receivers if Roby's not one of them. As for that fifth receiver spot, I think Parker has the edge right now because he's played the best in the preseason, he seems to have the highest ceiling with his size and speed, he's got the versatility as a return specialist and he has past NFL experience. ... DL Glenn Foster has vaulted to the top of my list of undrafted rookies most likely to make the 53-man roster. ...
OLB Chase Thomas is with the Raiders now, where he is reunited with the defensive coordinator he had at Stanford
Meachem called a bust and not expected to be a factor this season either http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...obert-meachems-body-reportedly-is-broken-down
So, they are going to let Morgan go? I know he's hurt right now, but he was going to be the deep threat after Devery was released. Looks like Payton/Loomis made the right call on him.
I believe releasing Henderson was more a cap motivated move rather than ability. All the other receivers except Colston make a lot less than he was getting paid as a veteran.
I knew it was cap motivated. Why pay Devery the money he was getting when Morgan can fill that role for a lot less? Now that Morgan's hurt, I hope they bring Devery back, but the WR position is kinda crowded at them moment, so I doubt it.
This will be the transition year for the WR position. Stills and Toon in the mix, with Morgan waiting in the wings for another year. Cap-wise, they're looking to next year when it will be time to pay Jimmy Graham. Long-term, I'm betting that they see Toon as the heir-apparent to Colston.
