nola.com reports the team has restructured Curtis Lofton's contract, creating $4 million in cap space.
Suprising, in a good way, since I THINK he signed for less than ATL offered to come here. He probably gets guaranteed money on the back end. That's the only thing that makes sense. Not sure we have the cap room, but some pretty good defensive players on the market. Woodson let go in GB. Although he's no longer a shut down CB, he would still be a great 'get' as depth for Jenkins or as FS to Jenkins SS. Then there's Freeney in Indy (although I'm not sure he fits in a 3-4), Boley in NY, Spencer in Dallas, and a few other notables.
Not that we had much of a chance anyway, but so much for getting Spencer. Dallas tagged him today. http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/9015381/dallas-cowboys-franchise-anthony-spencer-again
Love to, but I don't think we can afford him. Not only would we have to do a salary dump like ATL (who release Turner, Abraham, and Robinson), but we'd still have to send players/picks to the Jets because he's not a FA until next year. On top of that, we'd still have to pay him the $15m+ his looking for. That would mean nearly half of the teams salary cap would be spent on 2 players. I don't care where he goes as long as it's not to the Falcons.
In other news, Steelers release James Harrison. Of all the FA defensive players available, I'd love for Loomis to figure out a way to sign him. They run a 3-4 hybrid in Pittsburgh anyway and I think him and Lofton together could reek havoc.

Nakia Hogan and Larry Holder of nola.com have released their second mock drafts. Both have the Saints taking Mingo.
