I knew you were looking for LSU specific. The article was really just highlighting some of your points about how difficult/confusing it is to really narrow it down to a specific number especially when all possible options are considered. With the no text message rule going into effect last night and Florida with so few commits, I'm wondering what their schollie number is and how Urban will wrap up that class. It does look like LSU had 26 (?) last year so I would imagine this year would be a few less. You just have to sit down and count.
Here is a starting point. We have 24 seniors, but not all of them are on scholly. If you can figure out the non-scholly players, you'll have a pretty good idea of available schollies next year. Anthony Zehyoue Jimmy Welker Jacob O'Hair Luke Sanders Chevis Jackson Josh McManus Mit Cole Keith Zinger Kirston Pittman Glenn Dorsey Craig Steltz Caleb Angelle Shawn Jordan Jonathan Zenon Renaldo Thompson Early Doucet Carnell Stewart Matt Flynn Patrick Fisher Will Arnold Ali Highsmith Jacob Hester Donnie Chaucer Micah Metrailer
I wasn't being rude when I responded to your comment...I hope you didn't take it that way. I really did enjoy your info on USC...was just hoping somebody had that exact same info for LSU. Your post served to illustrate what I was looking for!:thumb:
I haven't seen Sonny or Mike talk about this in quite a while. It was thought that it would be a smaller than usual class, but since that time we've had 3 players kicked off the team & there seem to be a couple recruits we will accept commits from who look questionable to qualify. My guess is we take about 25 commits, with 2 or 3 that don't qualify.
I didn't. No worries. Maybe that somebody for LSU could be YOU! And you're right, the post/article was really meant to support what you were saying. The schollie game is confusing and demonstrates what a tightrope coaches walk since they never know what could happen through injury, xfer, citizenship issues, etc. They have to keep sweet talking the 4 and 5 stars knowing that they may still need to keep a 3 star on the line........just in case.
Looks like one more free schollie (& more need at OLine). http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070803/SPORTS/708030339/1006
Yep. This sort of thing happens every year, and it's just something we have to deal with. It's not even a particularly bad thing to have players leave, as long as they're far down the depth chart. It just opens up a spot to get a recruit who may come in and be much better. I don't know where Singleton was on the depth chart, but he wasn't a starter or a primary backup I believe. I think this means we're up to 24 slots available for next year, assuming no more transfers out and no one goes to the pros early. Those are both bad assumptions and we'll be able to pull in the full 25 this year.
