I'm digging the move. Never expected LSU to pull the trigger, love that someone made this happen. I've got some confidence in the admin again (maybe it was jingle, not jbe, who screwed the pooch). I'm not ruling Ogeron out, but it doesn't seem likely he can make a sufficient run. He isn't really getting a fair shake, but he wouldn't be considered a top tier candidate if he weren't already on campus. Kinda makes you wonder, though; maybe there was some forethought into bringing Ogeron on board. I also think having Ponamsky as a special assistant is a good move. Shaw may not be interested, but make him say no if he's on your shortlist. I guess gauging interest of a Saban/Meyer isn't a terrible move, but I wouldn't spend too much time on either, definitely not get in a bidding war. Really, expectations would be too high, Meyer is a heart attack risk, and we've already turned the page on Saban. Unless either just wants to really come here, no thanks. What I really don't want to see is a safe hire like UGA did. If we can't get a homerun hire, I'd rather take a chance on an up and comer than settle for Bama's untested DC. And I don't put Fisher too far out of that safe hire range. Hope we do this smartly, and for now I have confidence. If we fail, so be it. Try, try again.
Of those three, too me there is only 1 choice, Briles. Petrino is an asshole everywhere he goes, Kiffin could be his son. LSU fans don't deserve that "personality" after 11 years with Miles. I was and I am a Coach O "fan". My wife and I are coming to Alabama game, I have a feeling, I still think this years team is one of the most talented since Miles coached the worst game of his career in New Orleans. Once again this year he got in the way of unbelievable talent, and everyone is completely overlooking them.
If the running back keep averaging 10 ypc, Etling will get a "pass" for only throwing for 200-300 yards.
He is not even close to the same kind of "prick" Petrino and Kiffin are, just like this Presendential election, as time goes by, people forget what happened, he will coach again, and he will be successful.
I threw this out as a topic for discussion years ago, let's try again. Who out there that is worth getting would consider LSU to be their "dream job?" My answer the first time was Ensminger, and he may be thinking that way, but he's obviously not getting a look without some HC experience elsewhere. Answering someone else's question about black coaches, might it be Frank Wilson one day? Not now; like Ensminger, he needs more experience as the top guy
You see his stats last night? 276 and 3 TDs, and it was pretty much all done in a quarter and a half.
If you are going with "dream job" then we may have one of the few that would see it that way. That isn't to diminish the job, it's still a top 5-7 job and I'm sure a lot of coaches would trade up from where they are now. The question is which one.
I think a lot. Question becomes, which one would want to come here and not see it as just a stepping stone to where he really wants to be?
