Anyone else find it odd that in a banner year for Louisiana talent, eight of our twelve commits are from out of state? Doesn't matter to me as long as we continue to pull in the top talent, but I would have thought for sure our class would have been dominated by Louisiana boys for 09'.
Louisiana's elite talent this year is amazing with Randle, Davenport, Ford, and Janzen Jackson all being top 100 quality prospects. Our depth overall is also very impressive, with lots of guys that will be signing LOI's this year. The top talent (a notch below elite but still LSU-caliber), is solid but several have grade issues. There will be at least 4 more Louisiana guys in this class (bringing us up to 8): Reuben Randle Chris Davenport Kenny Bell Barkevious Mingo And up to 3-4 more possibilities.
I think we'll get darn near all of the top talent in LA, maybe not Lacy due to a few things and Jones due to grades. Anyway, Louisiana is loaded and we will bring in the creme of the crop while also getting some super studs from out of state. I'd look for us to bring in Davenport, Randle, Mingo, Bell and Sentimore for sure if he qualifies. If Jones gets his act together and looks like he'll qualify we'll take him. We could end up with more LA players, maybe a couple of more as we always have a surprise or two.
Lacy, Ainsworth, Sentimore & Tahj Jones all have LSU-caliber talent. Grades and/or character are a concern for some, and also it's just the bad luck of LSU having a smaller class this year & some really great out of state guys that are very interested in us.
Im not sure a coach has exceeded a limit in a long time, actually can't think of one case off of the top of my head. 85 scholarships, 25 a year can come in -- then add/subtract academic casualties, players leaving the team, transfers, etc. Nobody will have an idea of an exact number until January due to the aforementioned cases and players that can back count through early enrollment.
There's never a true maximum, and it varies year by year, but we should be looking at 20-23 this year.
Last year we got all the Louisiana talent we made offers to. I would not be surprised if the same thing happened this year. Certainly we will get the cream of the crop.
We will get every La prospect we offer this year as well. The only one there's any doubt on is Reuben Randle, and he'll be a Tiger. :thumb:
