Glavine now 1 win behind Smoltz all time in the playoffs

Should be able to eclipse him with 16 after the WS is over

This just in: LaRussa sick of seeing Beltran

i dont think willie has lost faith in heilman, in fact maybe he is saving him for multi-inning use with maine and trax and oliver perez coming up.

Yeah Willie will have to pull all the right strings, especially now with 5 straight games coming up.

Mota is pitching great, it was an outstanding move yet again by Mr. Manaya. Dude is quickly becoming one of the best GMs in all of baseball.

Game 2 will be Willie's most important to manage. If Carpenter is on his game, and it's a real close low scoring game, then the proper use of that bullpen can get the Mets off to a 2-0 lead.

I think he can pull Maine after 4 or 5 innings, like his last start. He's got a well rested bullpen at this point.

Maine is definitely the kind of pitcher that will start off well but tends to tail off a bit in the 5th or 6th innings. He always seems to get a high pitch count pretty quickly.

As I said, the rain was music to my ears. Half of Carpenter's wins this year are on the road... I like him anywhere.

I think that the Daryl Strawberry whole Daryl Strawberry throwing out the first pitch last nite put a hex on the Cards bats. Wow MLB, allowing the Mets to give DS the right to throw the first pitch is great for the image. I guess Doc Gooden will throw the first pitch tonite. While MLB is shunning Pete Rose, they should take some time and get rid of all the freaking Scarfaces in the league. This is ashame.

Cards bats silenced all on their own.

This is not the same vaunted lineup of years past. This is basically the San Diego Padres lineup with Albert Pujols inserted in the 3 hole. Pujols would have to start hitting home runs every time up in order for them to be successful offensively.

And this is why they have no chance. Even with superb pitching, they are guaranteed nothing, as witnessed last nite.

I say pull Rolen out of the damn lineup. The guy is virtually an out every time. Put in Scott Spiezio. Also, find a place for Chris Duncan. I'll take Duncan over Encarnacion. My line up would look liek this

    ss David Eckstein
    RF Preson Wilson
    1B Albert Pujols
    CF Jim Edmonds
    LF Chris Duncan
    3B Scott Spiezio
    2B Ronnie Belliard
    C Yadier Molina
    p ???

I'd possibly flip flop Belliard and Spiezio

What are your thoughts on Daryl Strawberry throwing out the first pitch last nite Islstl

LaRussa did the same damn thing last year against the Stros

if you remember, he kept Edmonds in the 4 spot even tho he wasn't hitting anything, and he kept putting in a battered Walker and even Reggie Sanders after that neck injury and he was useless from that point on

so there is history of stubborness from LaRussa

see if LaRussa would stop jackin off to lefty lefty situations, he would have put in Duncan last nite.....career stats show that Glavine is not nearly as effective vs lefties as righties. what a doofus of a manager

    and yes Spezio must start

as far as Strawberry goes, he is still beloved in Mets town....so it's their choice...its not the choice of MLB
