I guess just as much a fool would predict a Santana home loss, or an A's sweep, or (what is seeming likely) the Tigers going up 2 games to 1 over the "best lineup ever". I dont understand your utter hatred of the Cardinals and Larussa. This is just about the first time all year that the Cards have had the lineup they were built for. Edmonds , "little" David Eck and others, are all back. This isn't the same team that lost all those games in September. I hope you predict the Mets to sweep the Cards... All the other predictions youve made have been as wrong as could be (Padres sweeping the Cards, Yanks sweeping the Tigers, and Twins over the A's.... Good job)
LaRussa is a GOOD regular season manager. 2297 wins, 1986 losses, .536 winning percentage LaRussa is NOT a good playoff manager. '83 White Sox vs. Orioles ALCS '88 A's vs. Dodgers WS '90 A's vs. Reds WS '92 A's vs. Blue Jays ALCS '00 StL vs. Mets NLCS '02 StL vs. Giants NLCS '04 StL vs. Red Sox WS '05 StL vs. Astros NLCS Favored in ALL of the above and LOST 'EM ALL. ONE World Championship. The 1989 Syringe Brothers A's. I feel sorry for Cards fans.
Point taken about his past post seasons... I dont know about him being favored in ALL of those, but still... To have the limited success he has is suspect to say the least. I'm not expecting a WS this year for the Cards, but getting there would be a hell of an accomplishment. And with the injuries to the Mets staff coupled with the healing of the Cards lineup, its quite possible. As long as Edmonds can continue to make a couple of walks to Pujols result in runs... anything can happen I love baseball I hate the Yankees What a gem by Kenny Rogers tonight.
Please, you cannot tell me you would rather see your beloved Cards stink it up once again and go 4 and out in the WS versus bowing out the way in the NLCS to the much better team (e.g., 2004 Astros, 2006 Mets) I mean, for the respect of competitiveness, you would want to see a good WS, wouldn't you? I don't even know what to say to that.
Anybody else notice Jeter gets the most favorable balls/strikes calls out of any player in the majors. The Gambler should have had a 1-2-3 inning, with all 3 being strikeouts. One of the absolute best performances ever in post season, considering the lineup he was up against. Oh, what 250 million can buy you these days.
He did win the 04 series vs. the Astros. But then he came back and showed his true stripes in the WS with what is bottom line the worst performance by any team in a WS. Dude is very much in line with Bobby Cox' record. But you never hear people expose LaRussa for what he's truly worth like you do Bobby. But then Bobby beats up women. With all the talent LaRussa has had, the .536 regular season aint all that either.
There is no real competition between AL and NL. Therefore, I dont see any options for a good WS. Even if your boys the Metropolitans make it, they have ONE starting pitcher. Maine wouldnt make it, and neither would Trachsel against the Tigers, A's, or Yanks. I'd at least like to see one great pitcher (Carp) and the best hitter in baseball (Albert) play in the WS with a fighting chance, than a team with one old starter in Glavine and thus has no chance in a 7 game series.
