And how is UA involved in this? The way I read the quotes on Twitter it appears that Alleva is making this about Bama (not unlike his comments on the stadium expansion and where Bama fans would sit.) I can understand looking at what lies ahead in conference play but looking at Bama and the off week isn't what I'd call clear thinking. It's going to be a tough row to hoe for LSU getting to ATL whether the game is made up or not. You may be right. I can't speak for what's on his mind. Based on what I've seen on Twitter the last few hours it appears UA is on his mind. But, looks can be deceiving ... You know who Spencer Hall is? Founder of EDSBS and used to be heavily involved in UF's paid sites ... Here's a quote from him, about UF and Foley, which fits with what you've just said. Spencer Hall's take on this was interesting to me: Florida will never do anything it doesn’t have to do, ever, because the general pattern of the program since it tasted a thimbleful of success has been colossal arrogance. It’s our thing, whether we can back it up or not. Florida plays no out-of-conference games it does not have to, and has not for the entirety of Jeremy Foley’s tenure as athletic director. It tolerates no coverage it does not want, and was one of the first programs to create its own media apparatus to make news it liked.
If anything, I've walked away with confirmation of what I thought Sankey was a few weeks ago. While I see this falling at the feet of Foley and UF, I also see Sankey as the one who presides over where they are sitting. When he made the decision to go against the by-laws with the Mo Smith transfer now he's got a decision to make that has a bearing on who represents the east. I came away from the Mo Smith saga with the impression he wasn't willing to step up and put his balls on the line and follow the rules as they are written. Now, I'm convinced he has no balls. (That said, if all of this ends up with UF getting into the SECCG with a loss to UT ... no love lost for the Vols here so I can't imagine it happening to a better set of folk.)
Well, bama IS on his mind, as it should be. Without beating bama, what do we care if Florida gets the game or not? Above all, we get to exercise the same right granted to nick when he went on a tangent about the same conditions and that is whether we play bama or any other conference game, especially the gauntlet we gotta face under almost every scenario including dumping southern gumps to get Florida...on the road.
I find that a bit ironic considering how much we really care about the majority of other SEC schools. Right now, it's just disappointing. There's so many trying to push their own narrative. I don't think I've gotten that emotional about anything regarding football (and UA) since 2009. Now, it's just a point of knowing we're going to lose a game soon...to whom? **One counterpoint I heard last night was about the revenue for LSU on the 19th's game. One person mentioned LSU getting an extra home game last season and it washes out in the end. I'm sure dollar to dollar isn't the same, but it's a point I hadn't considered.
Do you think more fans would have showed knowing this would be the death blow to Spurriers coaching career? I would have flown in myself for some of that action.
Not to hijack the thread but if and that is a monster IF we were forced to play the balls out gauntlet with FU in November with the gumps and everyone else and Orgeron managed to captain us through with going 3-1 or even 4-0. Does he get the permanent job? To me that would seal the deal. Just wondering
