:geaux: If this is the case, why is CLM wasting his time, Fuente's time, the guy from Southern Miss's time, Kragthorpes time and whoever else he interviews time if Gonzales is gonna be the pick for OC. Makes absolutely no sense what so ever to jump through all those hoops for nothing. :rolleye33: I sincerely hope Billy G. is not the pick here. No previous experience and then all the sudden gets an OC job in the SEC? I'm not looking forward to that. :LSU231:
:geaux: Don't know if this has been mentioned previously or not but Tigerbait.com is saying that Mike Sanford, the current OC at Louisville, is a candidate for the job at LSU. Thoughts? :LSU231:
It's not a waste of their time. Just being considered by LSU is a great experience/resume builder for the young guys, if that's the case. Other schools see that Miles/LSU is interested then suddenly these guys seem more appealing.
:geaux: I think it's a waste of their time if in fact somebody on staff is already getting the job. Would you want to fly to Baton Rouge from who knows where and interview for a job you have no chance at getting? I wouldn't. Gonazales may get the job, he may not. And if he does I still think all this "interview process" is a total waste of everybody's time and unnecessary. If Gonzales is gonna be the man hire him and be done with it. Why jump through all this other crap? Just sayin'........:LSU231:
Miles is going to interview as many as he can. Gonzales and even Stud did the same as the other candidates. These OCs and QB Coaches and their agents are requesting these interviews and Miles isn't going to shun anybody with interest. Down the road when we have a need we will already have a good idea of who is on the short list and who is not and the candidates get to increase their exposure and paychecks if they are leveraging against their current contract. I don't think Miles has made a final decision but many are saying that Gonzales could have it locked up. We will see. If so I think we will see more QB coaches than OCs interviewed.
:geaux: OK, maybe this is all part of the process (oops, sorry). Like you say, we'll see. But it is really hard to see how Gonzales can have the job locked up over guys who have years of experience & success as OC's elsewhere. I would hope for an experienced OC to lead an SEC offense, just like we did with The Chief on defense. JMO though. :LSU231:
Does anyone know who called the plays in the cotton bowl? Lot of speculation between the possibility of it being Stud or Billy that called that game. Billy denied it afterwards but I don't think either one of them would have thrown Gary under the bus.
I understand the concern. Gonzales would not be the sexy pick that Fuentes would be- the pick that fired up the fan base. But I just look at the example of Chip Kelly and realize that sometimes all a guy needs is a chance to prove himself. I'll support whoever Miles hires. CLM knows this is an extremely important hire for the program and for the HC.
IMO I wold like to go outside the program for an OC who has QB coaching experience but I wouldn't be angry if we gave BG a shot and made an excellent QB coach hire. Just what many close to the program are saying makes me think BG has the lead as of now. Maybe that changes IDK.
