I appreciate your optimism, but let's not assume too much about Zach Mettenberger. Obviously he has talent. But it takes a lot more than talent to succeed consistently in the SEC. Not to mention, we still cannot be sure that LSU has the offensive coaches to help him reach his full potential. If the evening of January 9, 2012 was any indicator...:tigerhead
Lack of quality QB play has hampered out Offense the last seasons. It hampered Crowton's passing attack and you can see it hampered this team. Or QB's can not throw the ball on timing routes and slip screens, or to the flats, etc..... You can see we dummied down our offense even more this year, in terms of WR routes and involvement and it had 100% to do with QB play. Mett has more talent and ability than JJ and JL put together and by default, our Offense should be much better next season, whether we keep Stud or not.
I believe that Steve Kragthorpe will help Mett reaches his full potential as long, as you rightly point out, that Mett has what it takes between his ears to run the offense, handle pressure, etc. I mean aside from Jan. 9th our QB play was greatly improved over last year....just take a look at the stats between the two years and I think Kragthorpe had a big part in that. Going back to Mett, you are right. We shouldn't assume too much about Mett. What we DO know is that he can make all the throws, is a tall and strong kid who doesn't throw off his back foot and seems to be well-liked among his teammates. My only concern at this point with Mett is his maturity level.
I agree with you about Mett, disagree about Krags. Maturity and mental toughness are my main concerns with Mett. Stats show the improvement from the QB position so this is not my opinion. Is it anywhere close to what we would like to see from the QB position....of course not. But take a look for yourself...these are not bad numbers for what everyone agrees is mediocre talent. 2010 117.6 rating 173-301 (57.5%) 10 TD 11 INT 2023 yds 2011 147.5 rating 173-279 (62%) 21 TD 5 INT 2135 yds
Don't really see why LSU needs another OC. A little more talent at the QB position is all that's needed. Nothing wrong with the rushing attack. Bama, on the other hand, needs to address the leaving of coach Mac, a fertile offensive mind and an outstanding human being, of gigantic, national championship proportions. Sounds like coach Doug Nussmeier, of Washington Huskies fame, is the OC and QB coach pick. Calling Giant Duck Fan!!!
this is embarrassing to read, I can only hope you wrote it while drunk. mcelwain is a quality OC, I was surprised he wanted out of Bama so desperately. reading the bio of the new guy, he looks like a very good hire
It saddened coach Mac to leave the program. He took the head coaching job at Colorado State. The rams offered a substantial raise and he finally gets his head coaching gig he sought. He turned down at least two head coaching jobs before taking the Ram's job. Not a lateral move and he was picky. Doesn't sound like a man in a hurry to find his way out of T-Town. And yes, he will be missed. I understand it's coach Saban's intention to over sign at least 3 OC's and weed out the weak. The process continues.
