I was pleased with some of the things he said, i was even more pleased with the fact that he put some of the blame for not getting a better stranglehold on the oil companies and MMS, on himself and ken salazar. However, i am not pleased with the way he defended BP, and the way he said that people in Louisiana are being unfair. Screw that, BP just ruined our state, i think every shot that is thrown at this administration, the previous administration, BP, Transocean, Haliburton, all of em is completely fair and warranted.
its no secret that some people want the prez to be a figurehead at times, to make them feel better, i suppose. just like people want a preacher at a funeral.
i guess we have different ideas of what a president should do. i think he should be about action, not talk. i care about action, not appearances. i guess we will agree to disagree about what is important. well, you dont mean literally, you mean figuratively.
I will check it out when i get a moment. Did he happen to say how longer there has been an incident manager? There should have been an incident manager and pointman fromday1 or as close to that as humanly possible. We are a month in and we still have BP doing whatever they want, Coasties on another page, the state on another and finally the Feds who just seem swamped and lost.
I guess the president thought the same thing and had his first press conference in what, 300 days just to address it. Sort of like thinking heads of states supporting an action that does nothing to address an actual problem, but hey it's still relevant.
I was referring to military customs and courtesies in general with regard to saluting. But he's the Commander-in-Chief. In my opinion he SHOULD return a salute when rendered. We're required to salute him, so what's the harm with him returning it?
i am aware. but again, that isnt relevant because the prez is a civilian. most presidents disagree. reagan started a trend, but there is no rule or official protocol. presidents do what they want, and i am sure they dont mean disrespect under any circumstance. no harm either way. his choice, non-issue.
I'm not saying your wrong and I'm not saying I'm right. Hell I forget why we're even debating this point...
Just watched WWL's video of Obama landing in New Orleans this morning. No ceremony; greeted at the steps of AF1 by Adm. Allen, and the immediately went aboard Marine One to fly to Grand Isle. And for what its worth, he saluted the Marines at the chopper. Or at least he appeared to; his back was to the camera.
