Eliminate the DEA. End the drug war. that's around 51 billion a year for a program that is completely ineffective. While we are at it, cut the defense budget by about 50%. If they did that, I could live with Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid cuts, even deep ones.

$51 billion a year is like me cutting out croutons.

If effectiveness were the key we could cut just about every program. None of them are effective.

    50%?

    That is entirely to much.

What needs to be done is simply bring troops home. That alone is a MASSIVE cut in defense. They could then scale back on the number of "active troops" but in-turn spend some of that money on new technology.

I mean, I would agree that we are in an age of not needing massive ground units that are heavy and slow, but America must maintain its dominance in military technology.....

    just my 2 cents...

In all, if they need to cut the big 3 equally. Cut all the bloat by 100% and each of the big 3 by 1/3.

Here is a good chart to look at. the war is an obvious eye sore in the defense spending and could have saved trillions of gone about it in a different way.....

I think going back to 400 Billion a year would be about right, saving around 300 Billion a year...

I personally contribute time to this council. Just about every federal agency has program(s) targeting rural areas. The primary problem is that not only does the rural public know very little about the majority of these programs, but each agency knows very little about what the other agencies are doing in terms of rural policies and initiatives. The council is intended to coordinate efforts and promote information sharing. It's supposed to make rural policies more efficient and effective. Secretary Vilsack serves as the chair because Ag houses the primary engine for economic growth in rural communities with Rural Development. There is no new money, no new agency, no new jobs, etc.

If anything, the end result would be streamlining of policies and programs, which is long overdue. The Paperwork Reduction Act ended up adding paperwork.

What he has up his sleeve, if anything, is catering to rural voters. It's campaign time.
