He didn't have to, that is the point. His "impotent war mongering" forced Russia to rein in their client.
We were the pussy in this fiasco - not Britain. They made a decision, agree or disagree as you want, but they then stuck with it as a country. We flapped in the wind. We (the crack administration team) had no coherent plan and let events control us instead of us taking the lead. But with 5 years of experience of sitting in the back of the Middle east bus lets stay with what we know. At least they solved the Benghazi talking points problem. We don't need no stinking talking points. The Sec of State, the Prez, the Sec of Def - hell let them say anything they want. Lets not coordinate this - cause then you have to make decisions and plans - and stick with them - and that's so hard. For the record, everybody knows that if Syria waffles - Obama hasn't the balls to do shit. And even if he does, it takes him so long to make decisions he'll be out of office 2 years before he gives the order And Red, using "tar baby" is trending racist; even for an Obama supporter.
Syria's not reined in. They and Russia are doing exactly what they want. They could use gas again tomorrow without consequences.
You have not been paying attention. Obama has taken the same steps that your hero George Bush took before Iraq. What world do you live in? Obama has gotten us out of Iraq, is getting us out of Afghanistan, ordered the killing of bin Ladin and Awlaki and 22 other high AL Qaeda officers, helped the rebels overthrow Quadaffi in Libya, ordered the killing of Somali pirates, struck Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen with air strikes and missiles. All of that is in the Middle East, ace. Try reading the news and buy a geography book. Want to try again? You are making no sense at all. BE specific Get real. "everybody knows" you say. And then you engage in raucous speculation without a single bit of evidence. You're dreaming. Obama has shown the balls to use military force multiple times since he's been in office. No waffling. You are just engaging in a bunch of negative political rhetoric from the right supported with no evidence at all. Bullshit. Dim and slow-witted Br'er Bear has more sense than that. The Tar-Baby is a fictional character in the second of the Uncle Remus stories published in 1881; it is a doll made of tar and turpentine used to entrap Br'er Rabbit. The more that Br'er Rabbit fights the Tar-Baby, the more entangled he becomes. In modern usage, "tar baby" refers to any "sticky situation" that is only aggravated by additional contact.
@red55 Here you go cuz from the AP a detailed account of the administrations "brilliant" handling of the Syria situation. It shows how President Obama has mishandled and been played by the Russians for 2 years. Yes I know the US & Russia have reached an agreement to have the UN inspect Syrian chemical weapons in November but how are they going to do that in the middle of a war? It also gives till mid 2014 to gather and destroy them. Again how you going to do that in a war zone? As I said it cements the fact of Assad staying in power. The resolution has no teeth because it specifically rules out the use of force. You are right Red this is a tar baby situation in the classic sense you note. Unfortunately we are the ones holding it. Let me be clear I am not making any more of a racist comment that you did. I just see as the US as having its hands caught in the tar. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...ME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-09-14-03-42-32
Watch and learn. Today's news is that Russia has agreed that Syria has one week to account for its chemical weapons. Yes it will take weeks, possibly months to secure all of the weapons on the ground. Did you imagine that someone would wave a magic wand and it would be instantly fixed? It took years to locate a destroy all of Saddams chemical weapons, but it was done. The difference here is that Syrias only ally is a part of the process and the US military is ready and willing to strike them if they waver. Assad is desperate to demonstrate that he's still in control and cannot afford to make Russia look bad.
