We definitely agree that wars get protracted because the politicians never let the military use their full arsenal. I think if there is really a cause for war then we should exhaust all of our options in order to make it short and sweet (not-so-sweet if you are the bad guys). That being said, I am also in favor, after two Presidents who declared war without congressional approval, of making it law that you must get congressional approval before taking military action unless we are under attack and the President has to give immediate orders.

I hear what you are saying about "real Americans." But how many of those people who collect a check are actually seniors who are collecting social security benefits that they paid into their entire working careers? You can't blame them for collecting the funds that they invested. Nor can you blame them for using the medicare benefits that they were promised. That being said, there are people who are perfectly capable of working but choose to sit on their ass and collect a check. For those people, I am in favor of creating greater restrictions on benefits and, more so, the length of their benefits. Lastly, we have too many doctors who are willing to vouch for people on their disability claims without first exploring other methods. I currently know a woman who just got on disability but for no other reason than she is fat and her fat is causing back problems. The doctor never talked to her about a diet, just signed off that she was disabled. To me, this is where the majority of wasted benefits are going.

first let me say that the part about real americans only eating at chick-fil-a was well played and very funny.

that being said, your comment makes absolutely no sense. first you state that you are "taxed enough already!" then in the same breath you said you are against small business tax cuts and income tax cuts. which is it? are you far more taxes or not?

a few questions for you: when GWB passed the stimulus bill back in 2007 or 2008, did you accept the $600 check that the government sent to you or did you refuse it? when you drive to work in the morning so you can work hard, do you drive their on privately built roads or do you use the same highway and road system that the rest of us use? those were paid for by tax dollars. when you visit one of our national parks and you get to enjoy it for free, do you complain and make them take money from you? of course not. If you lost your job and couldn't find work immediately, would you take unemployment benefits so you could feed your family until you could find work? of course you would. If someone broke into your home and robbed you blind, would you call the police department and have them investigate? of course you would. If your neighbors house caught on fire and was threatening to burn your home also, would you call the fire department? of course you would. All of these are provided to you by government through the tax revenues that they raise. The funds come from federal, state and local taxes. still think you "take nothin from the government?"

And it's my taxes paying for those services. If I pay $10000 in federal taxes and I was supposed to only paid $7500 is it the govt's money I'm getting back or is it mine? Looks like according to your logic all the money people earn belongs to the govt and it's their choice to let us keep what we do. I pay to use, repair and build roads every time I buy gas. I pay for police and fire and school through property taxes. My kids aren't attending public school anymore so why can't I keep that money to use towards private school? I sure thought Bush went through congress to get approval for Iraq and Afghanistan but Barry used exec order to attack Libya.

Romney aint gonna win by spittin out this stuff

"Mitt Romney’s plan to overhaul the tax code... for the average tax bill? Millionaires would get an $87,000 tax cut, the study says. But for 95 percent of the population, taxes would go up by about 1.2 percent, an average of $500 a year."

sounds like he might be going after mortgage interest and employer-provided health care premium deductions.

Exactly my point! All taxes are not bad. The taxes that we pay to maintain roads and bridges, hire firefighters and police, etc. is all money well spent. We need these services to protect the public and an interstate/highway system that enables businesses to operate effectively. This is in no way an indication that I believe the government can better manage our money; it is an acknowledgement that all taxes are not bad; that some of them actually benefit us.

You nor Gumborue answered my question as to whether you accepted the $600 that was sent to each person by the GWB stimulus.

For the record, I do not believe that either of you are "on the government teet" but I am also equally certain that you have both accepted benefits from the government in the past.

How on earth could you draw that conclusion? You do realize, that based on what Romney has outlined, the only way the authors of this study could have come to the conclusions they came to was to make everythin up? He has been candidiatishly vague in the details of his tax plan.

Here is how an intellectually honest assessment of Romney's tax proposal would read...

"We are not able to determine the effects of the Romney Tax Program based on the details provided."

if the check came in I or my wife at the time did accept it. i would have been stupid to tear it up and tell the government "no, ya'll keep my money, i don't need it". I've always paid more into taxes than I've ever received back. I have no problem with people that get back a portion of their taxes. I do have a problem with people that get back more than they pay in. if you make $20,000 a year then you pay about $3000 in federal taxes in a year, right? why should that person get back $3000 to $4000 "refund" check? Anything you get back thats over what you paid in is wealth redistribution. and that doesn't include all of the taxpayer aka"govt" assistance they will already be receiving.
I buy federal duck stamps so I pay a fee to use national parks.
Private companies pay more of the tax burden so they have as much as or more rights to those taxpayer roads. maybe they should put tolls on all public roads and you just show your income tax return, no pay taxes no use road.
i'm also a volunteer firefighter, the county pays for my turnouts and I pay for my gas and leave work to go fight fires and cut people out of cars for people i've never met.
the last time i called the cops i was told put up no trespassing signs and shoot them in chest with a shotgun by the deputy. gotta love the rural life ;)
I've never had to draw unemployment either. I never quit a job until i had a new one lined up. But, my employer has told me how much he pays into unemployment insurance. He pays for it, not the govt, so that if he had to lay me off I'd have something to help get me by till i found another job.
and lastly, senior citizens that have been paying into SS and medicaid /care deserve to get back their money. those senior citizens that have been freeloading off taxpayers most of their lives o_O "Welcome to Walmart".
