I can understand why the wealthy wouldn't rent from you as they would rather live in pristine apartments, but Red55 why would you only rent to a small class of poor people they need somewhere to live too. If you care for the poor so much like Obama does then maybe you should lower your rent to accommadate these lovely people.
A person making $20000 a yr that knows how to take advantage of the system can receive $45 to $50000 a year in govt benefits. Section 8 housing. Medicare. Food stamps. Hospitalization. And prescription drugs, glasses and hearing aids. Plus get refund check that comes out of someone else's hard earned check.
my parents get more than that. social security and medicare. and they dont even work. why do we keep letting these lazy people ripoff the hard-working taxpayers. when will the real americans rise up and demand social security and medicare be stopped immediately!!!
Social Security is not a hand out. Every year the social security administration sends you a statement of your benefits. The amount that you are entitled to is based strictly upon your earnings during your working career. If a person does not work during their life, they do not get social security benefits. Social Security is currently broke because politicians from both parties are continually raiding the Social Security Trust Fund in order to fund their pet projects or wars, etc. Social Security can likely be saved by simply raising the retirement age and enacting legislation to keep the politicians out of the kitty. Baby Boomers are another issue with social security because there are so many of them retiring and not enough younger people in the work place to fill the void of revenues. Medicare is a much worse problem and will have to be addressed if we plan to reduce our deficit. As far as I am concerned medicare part D, the portion that was passed in 2004, should be immediately struck from the books and we could save right at a quarter of a trillion dollars per year. Seniors were getting along just fine before medicare part D and will do just fine without it. It was a ploy to get GWB re-elected anyway and never should have been enacted. Further, we currently have our pentagon telling the GOP that they no longer have a need for the M-1 Abrams tank and the GOP are saying, "Oh, yes! You are going to buy them!" because it would mean that factories in their districts would be closed. This is hypocritical and anti-thetic to the GOP's fiscal conservatism argument. At the same time the democrats are clinging to pet projects of their own that relate to clean energy, etc. Sooner or later we will have to have a serious argument about how to balance the budget. That argument should no doubt begin with spending cuts to the big three: defense, social security and medicare. After cuts are made we will have to determine the remaining deficit and figure how to make up the difference by closing some tax loopholes and likely raising taxes across the board. by the way, who are the "real americans?" please define "real americans"
I would define Real Americans as the people who go tO work everyday and actually contribute to the country. Unlike those that sit around waiting on their checks to come in the mail. As far as cutting the military I wouldn't want to cut it to much. You can do damage with missiles and drones but it takes boots on the ground to win wars. The reason we have these long wars is because politicians won't get the hell out of the way and let the commanders take care of business.
