Ronald Reagan, why bring him into this? We are talking here and now. But Reagan's numbers were 5.4% we he left office. Not counting those whose unemployment benefits have expired, but who are still unemployed. According to the BLS, you are effectively a non-entity if you have been unemployed for more than 99 weeks. You're stricken from the rolls. You no longer count. The 5.4 number has been used by more than this one report, maybe everyone is pulling the same number, out if thin air? The number now of 69,000 jobs "created" in May! We're in a recovery, right? But the part they are leaving out is that it takes about 90,000 new jobs per month to break even, when one accounts for simple population growth and new entrants into the workforce, etc. So, if the economy created 69,000 jobs in May, and it takes 90,000 jobs created per month just to break even, what is the actual net balance for the month of May? The economy LOST about 21,000 jobs in May. That's right, we're receding. Going backwards. Not making progress. Losing ground. The other things that come into play are people underemployed, many having hours backed down from a 40/hr. work week. BLS has shown this. Red, is the private sector "doing fine"?
I believe Red would say it is fine. He believes in nifty little charts and graphs that show positive upticks over a preselected time period. However, the economy is STILL not where it should be, not even where Obama said it would be AND the economy is on a CLEAR down swing. My beef is that Obama has hit THIS campaign trail about how he STILL didn't start this. It's been close to 4 fucking years. What does he have to show for it? Why is he still talking about what happened before him? He said this yesterday: “I love listening to these guys give us lectures about debt and deficits. I inherited a trillion dollar deficit!” he said. Obama compared Republicans to a person who orders a steak dinner and martini and then, “just as you’re sitting down, they leave, and accuse you of running up the tab.” But you did add to the tab you jackass, YOU DID!!!! Obama Care Stimulus YOU PASSED THE BUSH TAX CUTS AGAIN!!!!! 30,000 MORE TROOPS Shall we continue?
I keep hearing you say that Obama is blaming Bush but at the very same time, you are blaming Obama. So before we go any further let's be clear about that. Next, I agree that the recovery, however anemic, isn't going at the rate that any of us would like. I am a small business owner and I would give my left nut for business to be better and I could care less who gets the credit, Republicans or Democrats. As far as the stimulus, extending the Bush tax cuts and adding 30,000 more troops in Afghanistan....if he had not done those things you would be bitching because we would be in a depression and you would be calling him a appeaser and a pacifier. By the way, Obama really did inherit a trillion dollar deficit. This after Bush inherited four straight years of a budget surplus. These are facts and are undeniable. Tell me this please: When Bush inherited that budget surplus and went before the nation to argue that the country needed more tax cuts because we shouldn't be running a budget surplus when we still had an outstanding debt of 10 trillion dollars, where was everyone then? Where were the fiscal conservatives and deficit hawks then? Oh yes, that's right, they were voting for his tax cuts.
Because you cited an article that compared Obama with the Reagan era. Yes, I understand why you don't want any comparisons fairly drawn with previous Republican administrations. Telle est la guerre. But when he was three years into his 8-year presidency, as Obama is, unemployment was 10.5%. BS numbers propagate widely on the internet. The authoritative source is what matters and I don't see one. You make both good points and bad points but it is all irrelevant. The main point that I was making is that it is dishonest to use a different formula for calculating unemployment from that which has been used under earlier administrations. It makes comparisons deceptive and unfair. Sure. The GDP has slowly but steadily recovered. The stock market has recovered. The dollar is strong. Oil prices are dropping. Our enemies are on the run. Unemployment is a lagging indicator, but it has fallen steadily.
Of course, facts and figures don't lie, where as Limbaughesque political rhetoric is mostly lies. The GDP has slowly but steadily recovered. The stock market has recovered. The dollar is strong. Oil prices are dropping. Our enemies are on the run. Unemployment is down. What exactly were you expecting? Did you expect to climb out of the biggest recession since the Great Depression instantly? How perfectly naive. It took the country 14 years to recover from the crash of 1929. Have you no patience whatsoever? Can you not accept that progress has been made? Because republicans are trying to hold him responsible for the errors and incompetence of his predecessors. Isn't it obvious? I understand why you would want to distract attention from those unlovely facts, but they are undeniable.
God forbid people keep their OWN money and the GOVERNMENT actually balance a budget... OK FUCK THE HUMANITY. By the way, OBAMA DID add to the Trillion dollar Deficit he bitches about so much…
What facts? The fact that he said he would fix it in one term? Unemployment below 8%? Which ones? The fact that the average person is worth less today than they were from the mid 1990's? The fact that unemployment is up ticking? The fact that people are still losing jobs and their homes? The fact that GDP is going back down? The fact that your surplus king disagrees with obama on EVIL tax cuts? Which one Red? Balance the fucking budget for fucks sake.....
I can always tell when your wisdom is washed up because you start cursing and putting things in all capital letters like you are yelling at me. Obama inherited a trillion dollar deficit you nim-wit, like it or not.
Doesn't change what I said and what I said was factual. If a trillion dollar inheritance is so bad, why add to it? Obama likes to spend too you douche nozzle.
