He really deserved a Nobel peace prize. These are a couple of photos from the WW2 monument. Looks like our Vets are finally having enough. They are dismantling the barricades and piling them up in front of the White House. Police in riot gear are standing by.
I will never speak ill of a fellow veteran. Those men fought for the right to pile up barricades in protest and those police in riot gear would do well to remember that. I do, however, believe that at least half of those barricades should be piled up on the steps of congress too.
While congress shares responsibility for the shutdown it is the executive that decides what parts to shutdown. The Obama administration has chosen hurtful and mean examples such as shutting down the DC monuments. To me it shows the president to be a small vindictive man. Whether he specifically ordered the closures or not he administration is following his direction. Politics yes but really smarmy Chicago ward heeler politics. He and his administration has been consistent acting like this. One of the reasons I have so little respect for the man.
congress shut the government, Winston. not the President. the dysfunctions of this congress are well documented and this is only the latest example of it. they can try and pin this one to the President all they want but they were on an Obamacare crusade and had no strategy for the end game. not excusing Obama because he is indeed a part of the problem but he isn't the majority of the problem right now.
Read my post NC. I did put blame on congress for their part in the shutdown. You are correct that the Rs have been just as you say. The point I was making is the president through his administration is the one who has the power to chose how the shutdown is enacted. He has chosen the mall and punishing moves like closing the monuments.
you're right, I see that now. I hate this whole damn thing, Winston. It's not helpful to any of us right now. Sales in my business have been abyssmal for 3-4 weeks now. I'm lucky because we have nice cash flow so we've been able to absorb it but that can only go on so long. I'm ready for a resolution to the impasse. here's what I would like to see: congress be willing to extend the debt limit for a few years rather than 6 months at a time to provide some stability to markets here and abroad, which like it or not affects us all and reopen the damn government. president be willing to delay the implementation of obamacare by 6 months and sit down with republicans to see if they can tweak some of the portions that Republicans have the MOST issue with and try to build better consensus for it's implementation. Maybe I'm crazy but I think there are enough moderate Republicans who would take that olive branch and negotiate in good faith. If not, the President can play hardball about later and tell the public, "I tried." that and some budget negotiations would be nice to see.
Fair enough NC though I'm not optimistic that the Rs can find the leadership or that the Ds can resist taking advantage. One thing I have come to believe it that having a debt ceiling is a mistake. I think the market should determine our debt ceiling. When fools I mean suckers I mean institutions decide our debt is too big a risk they will quit buying it. Does that mean I am for no fiscal discipline? Of course not. I believe we need to get our fiscal house in order post haste. However to get real solution we have to remove the debt ceiling from the noise. Frankly I have less problem with the shutdown as it is (minus the pettiness) as maybe the pressure building up will force the Rs and president to settle on real solutions.
the shutdown is much less troubling to me than the debt ceiling. right or wrong, and I do lend some merit to your argument that we eliminate it altogether, we have obligations that have to be met. i agree that all of this could be taken care of by implementing a long term plan to get our fiscal house in order.
Hey it was the Republican House that shut down the government. And now Obama is "hurtful and mean"? Try to get a grip on reality.
