I just would like to know why this is all of the sudden a problem, when Republicans have been using this tactic for decades. Whats good for the goose.
Really? Do you not for a second think that if Saban Fan and I were standing outside the polling place with a 2x4 and a cold beer yelling dumb sh!t at black folk because we thought they would vote against the good ol boy it would not be on the news. Hell it would be on that big screen in times square and I'd personally have to kick the sh!t out of keith awfulman, rachel madcow, and that other idiot on pmsnbc myself. There would be an outcry heard in the deepest caves of pakistan that would make bin laden chuckle. You can't tell me anyone from the GOP has used this tactic before and make it stick.
you don't think that has happened already for years to black people? voter intimidation isn't something that just started happening to poor white people now that blackie is in office. http://www.democrats.org/pdfs/vri_voter_intimidation.pdf http://www.projectvote.org/blog/?p=181 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/02/republicans-fail-to-overt_n_377989.html if you look at the last article, the rnc actually tried to get rid of laws that protect minorities from voter intimidation in new jersey.
am i the only only one that thinks its not right to happen to anyone, any time? the lesson we should have learned from it happening to blacks is that it just flat out isnt right. it was wrong then and it is wrong now. to say "oh, it happened before to the other group" is no better than jury nullification. (oj, anyone?) the only way this nation is going to learn lessons and move forward is to not look the other way with the payback mentality.
You're arent trying to foster shyt, If I brought up some cases of voter intimidation against blacks and other people, you would say I was pulling the race card as you have accused me of in the past when I brought up other topics of race. Now that you have a case where white folks got intimidated, you are "just trying to foster discussion of this case." What you are is full of shyt and you have pulled the race card like you have roundly accused me of on several occasions. Just tired of your shyt because it stinks and this is a clear example of it.
i do think it is wrong in both cases, no one should be intimidated. But..... i'm not going to feel sorry for the people who have been doing it for decades because it's happening to them now.
it is that exact kind of attitude that i am talking about that is going to hold this nation back in terms of righting wrongs. the payback mentality. as long as that happens, shyt like this will go in a vicious cycle that will be never ending. the next groups will use it as the same excuse. because as long as we have this mentality, it will happen again. wrong is wrong. and at some point we have to look past payback and say that if we truly want it to stop.
Wow. The "Angry Black Man". Quite unattractive. The issue here is the Adminstration dropping the charges against convicted violators of the VRA. No one ever said the problem is confined to blacks vs. whites. You and LaSalle are throwing a big smokescreen over what should be a simple discussion. Let's pretend the harrassers were donkeys and the victims were elephants. Would that make it easier? And, by the way. I think you are confusing me with Purple Tiger. I have accused Obama of pulling the race card but never you. I challenge you to prove I have and if you can I will apologize.
and that is fine, but where was the outrage when it was happening to the opposition? I don't think anyone should be intimidated, i agree with you on that, but i still won't feel sorry for poor republicans who are getting a taste of their own medicine. everyone should register independent.
