Good points NC (damn it we agree again). One other positive is that immigration reform has the potential to add millions to the the roles of those who contribute. This will add to the fund's income when it is needed most. It isn't the system as much as the theft from the system by pols that threatens it. One ignored fact is by law the SS trust fund must but US bonds. In other words its future is backed by the money printed to fund our government's daily expenses. It isn't as trustworthy as advertized.
Can't disagree with anything you said here. The problem is it (SS) is such a lightning rod that you can't even mention changing anything because regardless of who does it, the other side goes to page 1 of the playbook which is scare the living shit out of old people. Lot of good idea shot down by one side or the other over the years purely out of spite from one side or the other.
Exactly, the immigration reform thing will be a bigger factor on the economy than most think and for the very reason you just listed....those folks will now become tax payers.
good point. and here's the deal: good, decent people....regardless of their politics....detest those moochers who are using the system. i haven't found one single person, dem or repub, who would deny assistance to those who truly need it....it's the leeches on the system that piss everyone off. to address this, we've got to stop making this a partisan issue and start thinking of it along the lines of separating the good from the bad and going after the ones who are trying to abuse the system.
