Agreed! Obama isn't canceling the program because he has downsized the government. He is only doing it because of wealth redistribution. He is probably doing it also because spends our money like it grows on trees. He is pathetic, Bush on Steroids. I agree, this country wouldn't survive another sixties, politically speaking! Its not like Obama is downsizing the government and acting like a responsible president when it comes to spending. You would then have a point. He is still going to waste money on Nasa's new global warming wing, plenty of it!:insane: Yes, he is a socialist, once again he isn't downsizing the government he is tweaking it to his hard left agenda. He is going to mold the country to his liking, redistribute the wealth to the countries rightful owners! It has nothing to do with the republican playbook. It is funny that every position you have ever taken right down to the slang used by the liberal media is exact!:insane: Hilarious how that works!:lol:opcorn:
You are so wrong, Obama hasn't made any proposals to make government smaller. He is only made the government bigger and has proposed to make Nasa the IPCC of the USA. Big spender, he has shown no intentions of making government smaller. He has tried to increase government with proposals such as healthcare. Let me know if you find any different information. I will be around here.
The country is broke, bankrupt, there is no more money period! The politicians have destroyed the country. Any money we are now spending is owned by other countries such as China. We should be cutting back on everything including services to try and save the country from financial ruin.
1. The Constellation program was a key stepping stone to the Martian program. The private sector cannot handle space exploration. Too expensive and too experimental. There are certain functions which only the government can handle. Military is one. Space is the other. Also, substitution of the moon for Mars is a good example of the old bait and switch routine. Kill the achievable in favor of of some distant alternative which either never gets developed or killed later in the name of another distant program. There is no way we make it to Mars without first going to the moon, and Obama just killed that program. 2. It is not just cancelling a program. It removes the U.S. as a major player in the space exploration. We are no longer the dominate force in space exploration. We quit. We gave up. We did not just cancel the program; we cancelled the future. Kennedy must be rolling in his grave. 3. Robotics has its limits, which is why we have living, breathing soldiers in Afghanistan. That is why we need astronauts in space. There is no substitute for human beings. 4. It is not out of the Republican playbook. Republicans are smart enought to know privatization has its limits. Space exploration may be expensive but it is not waisful. You want to see waistful and expensive. Look at the stimulous bill. The manned space program will die because of the lack of 3 billion dollars a year; 1/300th of the stimulous package which has not accomplished squat.
There are areas we should cut and areas we should not cut. Space exploration is the future. You don't eliminate the future. You want to cut? Look at foreign aid, entitlement programs and the such.
every dollar the government spends should be spent with the question : "is it worth taking this from whoever earned it?" i just dont see how the space program is worth it. let the people keep those dollars and innovate and earn and pay workers and hire each other and generally run the economy.
I think we should cut everything across the board, period. If you pick and choose that will be political suicide. People won't take you seriously when you pick and choose either. You could always bring Nasa back in the future once the country is financially stable again. Same with other programs, I am for doing things the smart way which there seems to be very little smarts left in the world including Washington DC. Bring back a better more smarter, Nasa, quit wasting money!
so why exactly do we need to send astronauts to space? I've never understood the benefit. Seems like a program for a prospering country, not a country with huge deficits
It's like asking why sail west from Spain, or why search the depths of the oceans, or why delve into the inner secrets of the human brain. Frontiers. Folks will be living out there and making money out there before too long - say 2035 or so.
