This better states where I was going when I posted the thread. There is no perfect system - But at least in the NFL, when the SB Champion is crowned, it's seems to be over, unlike in the BCS.
A playoff simply rewards the team that stays healthy or gets hot at the end of the year... A three loss team that sneaks in and is hot can blow through the playoffs... With the BCS bowl system, all teams get about a month to rest, heal, reset, and decide who is the best with the combine factors of a healthy team and a season's experience... Plus the bowls are a tradition... it lets even the smallest school have a chance at the national limelight... I'll take tradition over a definate champion any day... There is also the fact that a playoff will not solve much... Teams like Georgia and Missouri from this year will still have to argue with the Hawaiis and the Boise States over who should get the final spots in a bracket...
I'd guess mostly because there's only one accepted means in naming a Champion, and no other measures like the AP, Berryman, Billingsley, Colley Matrix, all dat chit- though not always "Accepted" they're allowed to exist. I blame the NCAA for not taking more of a stance but not sure how they should go about doing so. Also NFL is dealing with players who are grown men and not less mature ones as in CFB- who scream and cry. Just a guess though. And the school presidents/AD's will take the money, any day, as well.
I appologize for taking your intent out of context. Perhaps next time say what you mean rather leaving room for interpretation. A dumbazz like me is always waiting to be proven a dumbazz, room for interpretation shall always leave that door open. That said... Free OJ
The Giants went through the gauntlet of a playoff system. Teams aren't left out based off of opinions but rather lack of performance on the field. Where as in college football you have opinions and politics determining which teams are rewarded and which teams are left out. I wouldn't worry about it. Under the current system in place LSU did what it had to do. Enjoy it. :thumb:
Thanks - I was in a hurry...Still kind of a Noobie. I'll do better next time. And for the record - I am very confident the best team won the BCS. I just had the thought this morning about the double standard there is between NCAA and NFL relative to media reporting.
im a big supporter of a playoff---that being said, there is a huge downside to playoffs. a team can get huge breaks (the Pats kinda did) by having the "better" teams getting knocked out in earlier rounds. at least the bcs gave us OhSt and LSU, not BC and LSU. holds true for basketball, too. the first few rounds of the ncaa tourney are great, but 9 times out of 10, when cinderellas get through it just gives the big boys an easier matchup in the later rounds. of course, i realize that this observation has little to do with this years nfl playoffs---the cinderella won.
It pretty much boils down to whether you like a system (playoffs)that rewards teams that peaks late in the season, or one (like the BCS) that rewards the team based on their season's performance. No perfect system. I tend to like the BCS system.
The Giants winning it all is similar to if Georgia would have won it all this past year because neither team won their division. I like the BCS. It does the best job it can, sure it may have left Auburn out in 04, but 3 doesn't fit into 2 and if anyone is to blame, it is the NCAA for not putting in place a better system. I found this on the Virginia Tech board
