I keep seeing articles here and there about LSU "deserving" to be the National Champion because of the two losses. Even despite the BCS format, there are still those who question LSU's legitimacy as the National Champion.

Yet - last night, during the NFL Championship format called the Super Bowl, a 6 loss NY Giants team won, and no one is questioning the legitimacy of their win.

The double standard from the media aggravates me.

So which do you question? LSU or Giants

    Otherwise, who cares.

Um, people don't question it because they had a playoff. And they beat the best team, and offense of all time. I'm confused if you're being serious or not?

If anything, it shows where a playoff, in college, wouldn't necessarily crown the "Best" team as NC. According to "Expert" NFL fans, like we have in CFB as well.

Not many thought NY was a SB champion, even going into the game, much less when they got the wild card. There is no perfect way, accept the system, deal with it, move on.

On the other hand, the above can also be interpreted to validate the BCS, too.

6 loss SB Champs NY Giants, 2 loss LSU BCS Champs & Georgia Playoff Thoughts

In 2006 many of us on this board thought if LSU could have been in a playoff they would have won the 2006 NC. This football season Georgia makes the same claim. I believe this repeat occurrence is a direct result of a dominate SEC. I'm not sure a beat up LSU team could have beaten a more healthy Georgia team this year. A healthy LSU team would probably beat a healthy Georgia team. The 6 loss Wild Card NY Giants beat the 18-0 New England Patriots. The NFL added wild card games to make more money which opens the door for teams like the Giants to win it while finishing hot and mostly healthy. There seems to be no controversy with the NFL playoff system.

So where is the cut off for a college football playoff system? If you go beyond conference winners then I fear the playoff would be too long. I've always liked the 2 week break before the Super Bowl and at least a 3 week break before Bowl games and BCSCG. It gives teams time to get healed before the big game.

If the NCAA instituted a playoff system should non conference winners be included? That would leave out teams like Notre Dame since they belong to no conference and would force them to join a conference. Or should we stay with the current system which is evolving into a Poll/Mini Playoff to determine who the NC is?

I like the current system adding a one game plus solution. It seems only conference champions should be in the mix if each conference is decided the same way. What I don't like about the SEC is how there are 2 divisions with each team having different games rotating on/off schedules each year. It looks like if Bama becomes a factor in the next few years they will pick up the Florida series about that time. Timing is everything, right? Is it fair for some teams to play the best team in the SEC while others don't have to while competing for their division?

It seems there must be a complete realignment of College Football in order to equalize competition for a College Football National Champion. I'm not sure that can or will ever happen. So any solution without a total realignment will have big unresolved problems with it. This is why I'm comfortable with the current system and where it is moving. Which means there will always be problems and debates regarding who is truly the best team each year.

Not too long ago the National Champion of College Football was based on a poll at the end of the college football regular season before the Bowl games. Of course then there was more emphasis put on winning your conference and making it to your conference Bowl game.

I guess the one thing that everyone can agree on is to eliminate ANY SPLIT NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. I just don't think it's gonna happen without a complete realignment. I also don't think the talking media heads want to give up their power in selecting a NC.

I just posted a thread that took me an hour to write. Sorry for the slight duplication. NFL fans have no problem with the NY Giants winning the Super Bowl with 6 loses because the league has totally realigned the league conferences to support their playoff system. Who ever survives the season and the playoffs and wins the Super Bowl is deserving. The only way College Football can reach this kind of harmony is a complete realignment of college football. I don't see that ever happening since college football teams are not owned by wealthy owners, they are part of Educational Institutions. Let the College Football National Championship chaos continue.
