Dec 5, 3:09 PM EST AP source: Nutt to stay at Ole Miss with extension JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi is working on a contract extension to keep Houston Nutt amid reports he's a top candidate at Auburn. Nutt is working out the extension with athletic director Pete Boone and the new deal will be announced as soon as it is complete, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday on the condition of anonymity. The person asked not to be identified because an announcement hasn't been made. Nutt signed a four-year, $7.4 million contract when he took over at Ole Miss last season after resigning at Arkansas. The Birmingham News reported that Auburn was looking at Nutt to replace Tommy Tuberville. Nutt told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal and the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson he has had no contact with Auburn. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...&TEMPLATE=COLLFOOTBALLHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME
this is what he did to nebraska not long ago. its funny they are renegotiating his contract before the ink on the last one has dried. I could see him jumping to auburn once the highest bid is placed but ole miss seems like a good fit for him. leach certainly doesnt seem like a fit for the people in auburn but itd be interesting to see him shake that place up. well shake it some more. but alas, i suppose they will end up with a lowder-puppet like jimbo or something since thats why tub-o was canned anyhow.
The SEC office does not look favorably on SEC schools robbing coaches from each other. Tuberville had only been coach at Auburn for a year when Jimmy Sexton started pushing him as a candidate to replace Gerry Dinardo. The SEC Commissioner registered his disapproval, LSU declined, so Sexton offered to deliver Nick Saban . . . and it took LSU about 3 seconds to accept.
True, but there's nothing he can do about it, really. Nutt went from Arkansas to Ole Miss, didn't he? The schools are free to spend their $ as they wish.
