I agree with most of the OP's comments, except the comments about the McCray tip. Everybody's been trying to call that a lucky play. Harvin beat McCray like a rented mule on that play. The ONLY reason it was tipped is because Tebow underthrew it. It's not like McCray had good coverage or anything.

If that play doesn't happen, we still lose this one, probably just as big. We didn't stop them all night.

    Anyway, on to next week.

I'm no McCray fan, I hate that he is our nickel back when he usually can't stay with the slot guy. But this one is not on him. He was where he was suppost to be. Go back and watch the play. There was suppost to be safety help on top but the safety ran by Harvin because he was biting on the back going out in to the flats. The safety was suppost to be giving help from the top but he was out of position. And you never know how an interception on just a batted down ball can change the psyche of a team, player... etc. So we will never know how the game might have gone if there were a different out come, but it doesn't matter because from there on out UF just plain whipped us.

In high school, a game that I reffed two weeks ago we had the delay of game kicking penalty twice. Each team forgot to signal the referee that they were ready to kick the ball.

I am in favor of using chad jones as a linebacker as well as danny mccray or other safety. in 2003 eric alexander did outstanding as very fast linebacker(he was a converted safety). Especially against these spread offenses. these safeties have better speed to defend against running qbs and rbs out of the backfield also very good at getting to qb when blitzing. Saban used linebacker blitzes mixed with safety or cb and was very effective.

UF played great, but our mistakes are what lead to their confidence. If we had limited them, we would've been right in there, if not won.

CJ plays a rover-type position which allows him to be a LB at times. He hasn't been able to handle all of his responsibilities from that position - I don't want him trying to learn another.

CJ is too good of an athlete to be a LB.

How do we match up better against Bama & UGA? UF's weakness is their lines, and we failed to exploit it.

McCray is the most under-rated player on the defense. He's not near as bad as people make him out to be. (And Chad Jones is the most overrated).

He had Harvin covered & made the right play going for the interception because there was supposed to be safety help.

And if Harvin hadn't pushed off McCray bats the ball down or comes up with the interception.

    Agreed.

Agreed, but the coaches better find a way to let him bring the wood and make plays. This year, he is less of a factor.

Valid statement, but both georgia and bama run a more traditional, pro style offense as opposed to whatever you call the Florida offense. For sure, neither QB is as mobile as Tebow. If we can collapse the pocket, without the QB moving it, our line should do better.

Glad someone finally said it. Dude is incredibly inconsistent. If he didnt have *****'s attached to him most would see it.

Very true and they have less multiples which should help all of our young DB's, mentally at least.

i didnt mean convert chad to linebacker, i meant put him there from time to time in the 4-3 formation and not nickel or dime packages.

as far as UF's weakness being their lines. here is a friendly stat for ya. Bama has given up 9 sacks this year and sacked opposistion 10 times. UGA has given up 8 sacks this year and sacked opposition 13 times. Florida has given up 10 sacks and sacked opposition 15 times, so im not really seeing that big of a difference. Florida does give up 40 more yards per game on the ground but they still only give up 96. And im sorry but we do match up better against the style of offense UGA and Bama run rather than the spread. We have always had trouble with mobile quarterbacks, or a quarterback who is a threat to run. Even though Tebow hasnt been the ground threat he was last year, he is still a threat which forces our linebackers to keep him honest which hurts us in coverage of the backs coming out of the backfield in the passing game. If you dont put pressure on an opposing quarterback he is going to eat up a soft zone, especially a heisman trophy winning quarterback. Our linebackers just werent fast enough. Also florida is running for 193 on the ground per game anyway, so its not like their O line is terrible. The Spread creates space for playmakers to make plays. Which is why we were so successful in the last drive of the first half with Trindon Holliday. We got him the ball in space.

Another thing is they were jamming 8 or 9 in the box everytime on defense, and i dont care who you are, thats pretty damn tough to run the ball on. We werent effective throwing the ball, we were successful when we utilized the short passing game, Lafell over the middle, Holliday out of the backfield, should have used Keiland Williams more out of the backfield in the passing game, and Richard Murphy. The bubble screen would have been a great play to use against a defense like UF's, Brandon Lafell is one of the best blocking wide receivers in the NCAA.

Bama and UGA use more I formation, pro sets, and singleback formation and that dosent create alot of space for speed to kill, and that is why we match up better to that. :geaux:
