At his press conference, he said he planned to take OM to SEC champions. Hell, he is 50. Think he has that much time left? Really, that's what you would expect him to say...could he say "we intend to move up from number six in the west to number 4? But tell me this wasn't a DONE deal? He coaches Arkansas to a win over LSU Friday. OM fires O Saturday. By midnight Sunday, he is ready to turn down an extra $500,000 from Arkansas to go to OM....AND THE CONTRACT IS READY TO SIGN.............No negociating? I think he knew this the day they played LSU. Same with Bower at USM. They have someone lined up for sure or they would not have given Bower such an option.
I am probably in the minority here, but I don't think you guys could have did any better. There are better coaches out ther sure, but none that I could see going to Ole Miss. I like Houston Nutt. He has consistently won with not a whole lot of talent. He is a great gameday coach, and seems to always have his teams fired up. Good hire, and great fit IMO.
I agree....he was probably the biggest "name" coach willing to come there....I don't think there would have been a lot of coaches beating down the door. I'm just saying that it happened so quick that I believe it was already in the making...
He was playing with nothing to lose against LSU. Seems rather obvious and all the more depressing when you consider it all.
No doubt. What is great about it, is if that is true, which seems evident, he still kept focus, got his team ready and came to play on Friday.
I disagree... All you have to do is talk to some of the Arkansas fans about Houston Nutt. Overall, he had little control over his players and the cover-ups were never ending. What sticks in my mind most was the Music City Bowl game against Minnesota. Many of Nutt's players were hung over and several heaved their guts out on the sidelines during the first and second quarters. Nutt was forced to play a few of his defensive lineman on offense. I felt sorry for Fred Talley who Nutt kept on running with almost no blocking.
100% agree. As an LSU fan I am disappointed. Ole Miss gave us less trouble under Coach O then they will under Nutt. As an SEC fan I am happy to see Ole Miss make a good decision on the hire. It wasn't that long ago that they won the Cotton Bowl was it? I alway pull for Ole Miss when they play out of conference. The SEC is better of with a solid program in Oxford.:geauxtige
