Caldwell unhappy with performance by offense demotes OC and elevates WR coach to OC. Moving the ball now up 14-6 against Hogs Interesting
Vandy will likely be 2-6 by the end of the day, while LSU is 7-1. Even if Les is the type to fire a coach midseason, it's possible that the chaos on the coaching staff and the effects on the players would be even worse than the cluster-f we have now. Especially heading into Bama that would be an extremely risky move.
Well, that's a good point you make. I'm just so ready to see Crow go that I haven't looked at it like that.
The OC situation is tricky. The original intent may have been to promote BG and phase out Crowton slowly over another season. But Crowton has been such a catastrophe as both a playcaller and QB coach, I don't know if it's feasible to promote an inexperienced coach, when LSU is in need of an experienced OC to pull our offense out of the ditch and reverse course now. Maybe someone not interested in a long-term commitment (2-3 years). That would give BG enough time and experience to take over OC duties if Miles is retained.
I said this in another thread and I have a bad feeling it will turn out to be true. Gary Crowton will be at LSU next year. My guess is that some excuse will be made about JJ/Lee having to learn a new offense. They could break out some contractual excuse also.
Man I hope you're wrong about that. As far as promoting BG, I am not a proponent of that unless it's an interim role in the event GC gets canned during the season. It's not that I have anything against him, but I don't know if he's got what it takes. I don't know that he doesn't, but I wanna know that he does before he gets that job.
If that happens I will be completely done defending anything Les does in the future. Those offensive numbers just can't be justified, regardless of what you have at QB.
