the flood gate is opening- I read they had two 4 stars OLinemen transfer this week: Konrad Reuland and Chris Stewart. Not 100% sure about Stewart though. And don't forget about Demetrius Jones, who left earlier. The situation at Notre Dame may help us with recruiting, surely shouldn't hurt anything. Most of what I read says Crist stays put though.
Tiga - I just did some quick reading and found that 16 players have left since CW came to Notre Dame. Believe it or not, there is still only a small, small minority of posters that even attempt to link these to problems w/ the head coach. The interesting thing is that at least four of the transfers (Frasier, Jones, Reuland, & Stewart) are Weis' recruits signed after his first year at ND. Most of the others were former players, or players signed during his first recruiting season that were recruited by both coaching staffs. Still, not many people seem to be upset w/ the transfers this year. Obviously, if it were someone playing signifigant minutes there would be more of an uproar. For instance, it appears that Jones would have ended up being the 3rd QB to make it onto the field (especially after todays performance by Sharpley), and Reuland is said to be upset b/c he was beaten out of the back up role by a freshman TE. Stewart may have been frustrated b/c he couldn't get on the field, even w/ the horrible play of the current starters and back-ups. My feelings, it is a sign of some problems that need to be addressed, but it is also just a situation where a player may think he's much better than he is. All of the transfers this year were good recruits that now can't seem to make the 2-Deep roster on an 0-5 team. Either way, it's going to be a long season. Right or wrong, Weis will get a pass, even if he only pull off 2 wins, as long as his freshman keep creating bright spots in games as they've been the last two, and his recruiting class holds together (so far they seem to be holding). A loss to Navy may change opinions though, and that is deffinately a possibility this year. By the way, a horrible 1st half today for LSU, but the talent came through in the second like I figured. I guess everyone was thinking too much about next week.
Hey Bayou, I realize that transfers are a part of football but I agree with you that the #'s are obviously a little high. From what I read, it has to be some kind of gap between Weis and his team. I mean, look at Matt Flynn waiting, our RB's sharing time/carries and are a very tight-nit group, which comes from the top. I've even read more about what you first brought to my attn. about Weis being too schematic (In fact he alluded to it in an interview) and trying to be too detailed on every play, without establishing an identity. That makes a lot of sense coming from the NFL to college and having limited time to practice, and college players not ready for that kind of detail in EACH play. Hey, you guys did make a little move today though and made it interesting later in the game. Even though I don't like the overall attitude of a lot of those associated with the program, I feel sorry, on the human level, for the players. Weis made the comment that "Getting through the day was the hard part, coming to/being at practice was the easy part" and that makes sense. They aren't subject to the negatives they most likely hear all day. Take care man. Good, objective post too.
I get the impression Weis brings the same attitude Shula brought to Bama. He plays favorites and caters to the good ole boys. Pretty awful considering those kids made the biggest decision of their life to play for you. At least give them a chance. You are 0-42 this year. Again, as mentioned Im sure some think they are better than they really are.
You have to wonder if that is Weiss' fault though. When recruiting them, is Weis making them think that they are going to start? Telling them that they will be All-Americans before they even step on campus?
Konrad is a TE, went to HS just a few miles from me here in So OC. We wanted him pretty bad (he's also just a terrific athlete) and I was disappointed but not surprised he picked ND. Konrad came in at a time when the TE position was fairly deep so he has yet to see much action. He could easily get on the field for most other top programs and WIN. Can't blame him for seeing this.
Well, it looks like one of the transfers (Chris Stewart) changed his mind and returned back to ND and the football team. CParso - I think it is entirely Weis' fault. Obviously he's sold them on early playing time, and while Reuland probably didn't expect to play ahead of the senior Carlson, he had to get discouraged when he was passed by a freshman (whom I'm sure was sold on early playing time). Then another top TE recruit signs, and the writing on the wall gets pretty clear. While I don't have a problem with them telling every recruit they could play early (it seems like an obvious statement right now), they need to do a better job of either getting those guys early playing time, or convincing them to be team players and wait a turn.
May as well remove them from every year except 04'. The BCS isn't that old, nobody has that many crystals.
