In the drama over the upset, the blown calls by the officials has seemed to been swept under the rug. Before the Spartans ran that trick play at the end, the 25 second play clock had expired. Where was the flag? Or, where was the flag on MS's game tying touchdown when their receiver went out of bounds before catching the ball? I expect ESPN and other schools to hate ND, but its a bit much now that ND has to deal with biased refs as well.
In the SEC we have a lot of our own blown calls to deal with to care about how poor ND was victimized. Go to an ND board if you want sympathy for that. Which game-tying touchdown are you referring to? If it was the last one, the receiver was in bounds at around the two before he caught it. I haven't seen any replays that show if he went out of bounds while running his route. And yes, on the fake the ball was snapped about a fraction of second after the play clock expired (that can only be seen after several replays), something that most reasonable people would not expect a ref to catch at game speed. Are such things reviewable? I don't know.
The out of bounds thing was the correct call, sorry. http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/FR09.pdf Eligibility Lost by Going Out of BoundsARTICLE 4. No eligible offensive receiver who goes out of bounds during a down shall touch a legal forward pass in the field of play or end zones or while airborne until it has been touched by an opponent or official (A.R. 7-3-4-I-III). [Exception: This does not apply to an eligible offensive player who attempts to return inbounds immediately after going out of bounds due to contact by an opponent (A.R. 7-3-4-IV)].
